Is a Passport required to get back across the border, or can you still get back across without one? I have not been to Tijuana since 2009, and then they were talking about making Passports the rule, but I don't know if it actually took effect.

The law has been a financial disaster for the border towns, and a major headache for the Border cops.

You can now go to Tijuana with only a valid drivers license. I don't know if they actually recinded the law, It's still best to have a passport. Here's a tip: Scan your DL, Birth Certificate, and Passport, then e-mail them to yourself. If your stuff is stolen or lost. You can at least show the authorities a facsimile.

I live in both Rosarito and San Gabriel valley. Every time I pass through Tijuana on my way to Rosarito I walk through zona norte. Past two months have " hired " four non-pros. They have all been on the outer edges of zona norte in regular street clothes. Only one was baring her girls and that was because she was a large cee. Got GFE from each one. Have read on several different locations here on the east coast saying if you are anywhere near the west coast you must make a trip to tijuana. Was wondering if maybe I should split my vacation maybe one week in vegas and another in tijuana. Or maybe a couple nights in vegas and a longer vacation in tijuana. Also if I did go do I need to exchange us dollars here in the states or wait till I get over the boarder. I don't speak any spanish and if that would be a problem. Any opinions on how to enjoy my vacation would be greatly be helpful.

The streetgirls are 20-25 bucks for 20 minutes and 5 bucks hotel. 40-100 girls in zona norte standing on the streets. If your first time in Tijuana I'd really recommend just roaming the clubs in Zona Norte first. Day or night. Great experience. Most of the places are almost anything goes. Lots of info on-line to give you a safe trip.

Hong Kong and the Hotel Cascadas are separate entities. They have to be under Mexican law (otherwise the combo would be considered a brothel, and illegal). Las Chevalas girls also use Cascadas.

Way back when (pre-2002) you could bring as many ladies as you want to your room from where-ever (street, Hong Kong, other bars, etc.) with no extra fees. From what I've read on various Tijuana boards they now may try and hit you with a service charge for each different girl after the first one (although over a few days I doubt they could keep track). I'd clarify this on check-in.

Don't know about the $60 rooms. Last time I stayed there (in $30 rooms) they were reasonably clean, although somewhat worn. What difference does it make. You'll be having a 2-3 day fuckfest.

I never stayed more than one night at a time so just carried all my cash with me. Only things I left in my room was clothing / tooth brush, shaving gear / etc. Not sure what I'd do if I had to have cash for multiple days. There are ATM's in Tijuana. Also reports of guys getting mugged while using them. I think if you used the ATM in daylight hours in a busy place you'd be OK. Just don't let anyone "help" you.

In fact stayed there on my last visit this past October ($25/ night). I've stayed at leyva a bunch, never had a problem. It's like 23 or 25 bucks + deposit that they give you when you check out. If you've never been there before it might seen dingy and hideous. I stayed at Nikki's once about 2 mos ago and place was fantastic. I've recently notice it shut down which is sad. Rizzo de oro (above tropical bar) always quotes a high rate especially on wkends. I've never stayed at cascades. Everytime I've asked for a room on wkends they say we're sold out. I stopped going there. Sun- thurs I think you can stay anywhere for 35-40 dls.

Being in the clubs day and night will be the safest time of your stay. You'd only be tempting fate if your familiarity over the 1-2 week period led to carelessness.

On the walk to Revo. IMO no issue during daylight hours. After dark use your judgement. Plenty of people on the street usually equals safety. When in doubt, take a cab. Find one of the stationed cabs (the blue and whites that have assigned spots to wait for fares. I like Moses at Molino Rojo) and tell them $3 to Revolution & whatever cross street you want. They'll usually go for it.

Here's a thought. Since you are so interested in the Revo scene, take a look at la via Zaragoza, [URL]http://www.hotellavilla.biz/[/URL] Very secure (at least used to be). Decent rooms and they have a safe for security of valuables. Also very chica friendly (in fact, the night clerk will have one knocking at your door if you ask). If you can get an out-date with a Zona girl they like to get away from the Zona so the Zaragoza is a good option. Stay there the first couple of nights to get the feel of things and scope out the Zona hotels. Maybe even get a room at Cascadas or Hotel Cohuilla (Adelitas) for a night for a place to do multiple pops and decompress between clubbing trips. Then, if you feel comfortable, move to one of the Zona hotels.

BTW, we expect a full report when you return.

I'm a monger from Wisconsin. I just wanted to say thanks to the guys who have posted so much great info about Tijuana. I'll be out that way for business in August and I will definately make time to head down there.

A older female friend of the chica knocked on the door and he allowed the chica to let her in (error #2). Might somebody try to "dash and grab" the suitcase as I'm walking to the taxi cab? Does crime happen here much between the turnstiles and the taxis?

I doubt you will have any problems. A book bag would be less obvious. I would leave the Vitamin see powder at home however. The police are not around the taxi's to often.

Particularly those picking up passengers near the border (bad for the tourist business). However, you do go through Mexican customs when you enter Mexico - when I used to go the Federales would check some bags - they had some sort of a random selection system.

Not much chance of a grab-and-run as long as you hang on to your bag/backpack/suitcase/whatever.

I've never had anybody look in my bag, but I feel safer this way.

From my point of view, go ahead and bring a roller bag into Mexico. That has never caused me a problem. After the turnstile there will be a small Mexican security station, you will need to press the button on the machine if you have a bag with you. I really don't know what that machine does, but they always want me to press the button when I have a bag. After entering, I always go straight to my hotel and drop off my bag so I'm not dragging it around Zona Norte.

Those people press the button at the customs station and if you get a random red light they will inspect your stuff. Backpack people are seldom asked to press the button so if you are travelling light that would be better.

Stayed at leyva last night fri. 6/13. Pd 28 usdls + 2 dl security deposit that I got back this morn. It seems like the last few times I've stayed here price has gone up each time. Also, there's major renovation going on and has been for some time now. Funny thing was I couldn't find my way down to the officina at ckout due to the staircases being blocked off. Still one of the better and cheaper places to crash although nothing fancy.

I like Hacienda de Santiago because YouTube's video tour of a room shows it has windows. I'm a little concerned about staying in a hotel room without windows for fresh air, but even so, I probably will also try Leyva and Cascadas and / or Rizo de Oro, and maybe even further-away Zaragoza, Plaza de Oro (at Revo and 2nd), and Hotel London.

Does Leyva have a front desk safe you can use to store 300 to 500 and know it will be there a couple days later?

It is strictly a motel to go and crash when your drunk. I also like it because it's in the zona per se. I've never stayed at Santiago but I always see police activity down that way and have heard some complaints about being harassed by police walking down there. From the outside it looks like a nice place though. Also, leyva does not have windows except for a little on in the bathroom. I think whatever you do, if your walking find a place to stay in the zona. It's always a little bit safer then walking all over Tijuana late at night. Hope this helps.

The rooms are nice and they are chica friendly. My recollection of the walk along Cohuilla, from Revolution to Constitution is that it was kind of rough. I've done it a number of times at night. To go to La Tropa, across the street from the Santiago. However, there's no way I would take that walk after about midnight, particularly when the bars and other businesses start to close.

A bonus. Hacienda de Santiago is (at least used to be) right near the place where the bar girls go to get their health cards.

Okay fellas, I'll stick to nearby Leyva, Cascadas, and Rizo since I can see myself at 2 or 4 AM in the morning taking a stroll in the "T" streets formed by the Alley and Constitution, and wouldn't want to chance a walk from further-off Hacienda de Santiago. Thanks! Are the two "T" streets safe at 2 AM and 5 AM even if you see no one around? Someone posted a map here several years ago showing the "T" is safe for night walking, but what if the "T" is deserted or only has a few SGs?

While he was in a drunken stupor (result of error #1) the old lady let a guy in who robbed the guy and took all his clothing.[/QUOTE]I'm a little embarrassed to admit this but back about 14 or 15 years ago (1999 or 2000) I got a room at Leyva facing the street (with hidden interior hallway) on about the 3rd floor, at that time I had been staying at Leyva most weekends as my ATF was next door in the then rocking Chicago Club, anyway I had a full suitcase of nice stuff including some electronics and stepped out for just an hour in the mid afternoon and when I returned ALL my valuable were gone.

Lessons learned to never let your guard down and never carry or bring anything that you can't easily replace.

BTW. I stayed this past Friday and Saturday at Leyva but now only in the rooms facing the interior parking area and only bring a change of cloths.
