It's about politics. It's about power. Making headlines for politicians and LE and Attorneys General, by shutting down these "horrible human trafficking sites" and showing people like the BP founder (who DARED fight them) that he'll lose, even if they have to create a new law to do it.

I think it's becoming more of an "out of sight, out of mind" world. Government and activists go after low-hanging fruit, leaving more problems for society in their wake. They needed to go after just the traffickers, so they can gain supporters. If they'd left sites intact, LE could catch plenty of cocky traffickers. Now, they save money by driving it into the dark web, where they will do very little.

Council voting to basically ignore the new law (not signed by Pres Trump yet, wonder if he would veto it?) and for the DC police to not prosecute. It will take some kind of court challenge by such local governments or class action lawsuits by LMTs whose business has been hurt to get this overturned.
