Craigslist has fought back using little more than their blog and logic. And they’re right. Having prostitution up front and regulated, as Craigslist does, means less crime is associated with it. It’s not like prostitution, sometimes called the world’s oldest profession, was invented on the site.

The fact that eBay and others do exactly the same thing, but without human review and moderation, doesn’t seem to matter. Craigslist Sex is what scares the general population, and it’s what the press and the politicians will continue to use to get their hits and votes.

Everytime I buy or sell on craigslist I feel like I'm fighting the forces of evil. lol
No tax, no advertising, no money going to China, no money going to big business which I have to bail out. lol

I wouldn't doubt that some powerful people would like to make craigslist disappear entirely.

The demise of Craigslist is no big deal. BP is still going strong, and even if they get BP it won't make any difference. Someone will just set up servers in the Netherlands or Eastern Europe and [i]boom![/i] the wh0res will be back up and running.

The whole thing is futile, and the people who are doing it know it. It's not about stopping prostitution at all. It's about [i]appearing[/i] to stop prostitution for electoral reasons, since there are a lot of technologically illiterate dumbasses out there who will think this has any effect at all.

BP has been the consensus Ho Shopping Network for over a year. It's been a long time since I even looked at Craigslist. The comment that TPTB may want to shutdown CL for ulterior motives is intriguing.

Agreed! I haven't looked at CL for some time, so when I heard the nanny staters were shutting down the erotic services section, my reaction was to laugh.

Truth is, I'll laugh just as hard when they try to shut down BP, because by then I expect to see a site hosted in Russia or The Netherlands, utterly out of their reach, where all the girls will post.

It's inevitable.

Re: CL adult section shutdown, I agree with the others. I haven't referred to it in a long time so I certainly won't miss it. I also agree that the providers who were advertising on it will just find other ways to promote their business on other sites or even simply in other sections of CL. Where I think this event has more significance is really mostly in what it says about attitudes in this country and perhaps trends to where things may be heading. They'll never shutdown the world's oldest profession, but they may drive it more underground (thereby increasing the risk for all involved) or make it a bit harder for those interested in it to practice.

I also find it curious that one of the justifications used by those seeking to shut it down was the suggestion that the "promotion of sex minors was rampant on the site". Perhaps there was some of that going on but the VAST majority of the ads were for commercial sex between consenting adults rather than sex with minors. In fact, the only case of an ad for sex with minors on CL (or BP) that I was ever aware of was the FAKE one placed by the Pasco SO to entrap foolish creeps. Was the purpose of that operation really to do something serious about that problem or was it at least partially to misuse and discredit CL. Wouldn't it have been amusing if the CL editorial staff had caught wind of that ad and reported it to the police themselves )not realizing it was actually the police who placed the ad) and would we have even heard about it if that had happened? And, to the degree that really was a wider spread problem with that sort of thing on CL, there are certainly better ways of dealing with it then forcing it more underground or eliminating the whole section including all the ads for real adults along with the really few for minors. How about simply requiring CL to better review ad content and report ads that appear to promote sex with minors?

They also like to cite ads involving pimps who were in some way coercing adult women, but pimps having been doing that sort of thing long before CL or BP ever came around. Attacking the advertising medium these pimps use really does little to lessen their influence. In fact, the growth of cheap advertising mediums like CL or BP has probably done more to make it possible for women who choose or need to practice this line of work to do so INDEPENDENTLY of any pimps, so removing it may actually make them more vulnerable to falling back under the influence of those pimps.

Basically, they cite the most horrifying and egregious examples of abuse to vilify advertising sites like CL, but those cases probably really represent a tiny minority of what appears on those sites. And there could have been much more effective and targetted ways of dealing with those worst cases than shutting the entire section down and penalizing everybody else. No, what they were really after was the ENTIRE market which they disapprove of, prostitution IN GENERAL (which when between consenting adults as it usually is, is really a victimless crime)

It is really ironic, pitiful, amusing and/or annoying to see her back here on USG considering her previous departure involved no love lost by either side. Talk about gall. I hope this doesn't mean we'll be hearing more from her again. Maybe we should ask her how crow tastes? Or how hard up she must be for business, that she thinks she could find some here? To any newer members who aren't familiar with this crackpot man-hating fat pig of a woman and are thinking of maybe answering her ad, good luck, but you've been warned.

She goes on to let you know that she'll stop the e-mail and phone call barrage if you pay her a specified amount of cash. In other words, she attempts to extort you.
