I have a few non-pros who I pay after, just because they've never asked for it up front from the beginning. I like to get that level of trust and I usually tip them for it at the end. Doing that, I often get them sending me little cute indirect reminders via text so I won't forget them. Maybe I'm weird but I like to get called to them more than me pursuing them. Maybe it's an ego thing, who knows.
