Fortunately, there is a more precise way to find your post but it requires a little math. The formula is:

x = ⌈(cp-tp+1)/pp⌉

where
x = target page
cp = the current most recent post
tp = the target post and
pp = post per page

So say you're looking for post #1212, since the current most recent post at the time of this writing is this one or #1553, then the numerator (number of posts, [u]including the current one[/u], that have past since the one you're looking for) is currently 342. If you stick with the default 15 posts per page then the target page would be 23 (1553-1212+1)/15 (rounded up).

You now know how many pages back you'd have to go, but you still can only get there in jumps of 10 plus you get a full page of 15 posts rather than just the one you're looking for.

To get even more quickly and precisely where you want to go just click on any other page. Up at the top of your browser window in the address box you should see something like:
