Some of the concern with texting is the fact that it is a "written" document that exists until deleted whereas phone calls are subject to wiretapping issues that LE cannot work around. I prefer to hybridize my communications with some of both. If I am comfortable with the person on the other end either will suffice totally, it just depends on your level of comfort. As always.
