I know that some of our post histories don't show it, but there are some "newbies" on here who have resumes through other venues that precede them. Perhaps a private thread for "Hobbying 101" could be useful, with some sort of vetting or informal application process.

I know I am dating myself but when I started in the hobby you called women on the telephone. I could tell in two sentences what kind of lady I was dealing with on the phone. Unfortunately, texting is a whole different ball game and you cannot read anything about the other party including if you are talking to the Escort, Pimp, or a scammer. It takes a lot more work and leads down some dead end alleys.

What I'm beginning to do is try to set up dates before the dates. I've met 3 providers for coffee last week. Literally bought them coffee. On the way home from work near their incall. I made it as convenient as possible for them. You'd be surprised how quickly $$$/hour * can* turn into $.5 (YMMV) once they realize you aren't LEO or Dexter. Goes double for if they fancy you.

I'm testing the theory that it will build for a more satisfying experience overall by just getting the anxiety of the first time meeting part out of the way. I've been able to discuss more openly EXACTLY what we want to do as well.

On their eyes it's a very awkward / suspicious request to meet just to talk.

This is my first posting on this board. Unfortunately I was driven to do this after almost being robbed tonight.

It all began when I was cruising 27th Ave between CB and Northern. I had done a few rounds and was about to call it quits when I spotted a WSW in her mid to late 20's at the QT on Northern and 27th Ave. I picked her up and negotiated a rate of 80 and she told me that she had an incall nearby. She started texting and I should have known then to abandon ship but my little head was doing all of the thinking.

We arrived at what looked to be a not too shabby Homewood Suites on Dunlap near the 17. She had me park and I told her to go up first so I could survey the situation a bit. After a few minutes, I decided to head up to the room.

Once inside, I paid her the 80 at which point she told me she needed to use the restroom. I should have known then and there (after reading of similar rob instances) and left. Instead, I waited a few minutes at which point the door opened and I was facing 2 tall, strongly built Black men. They immediately demanded that I take everything out of my pockets (luckily I had left my wallet in the car). They took my keys and at that point one of them decided to go inspect my BMW (he was very happy to have "scored" a nicer car I guess). The other guy then tried to intimidate me and have me unlock my phone for him.

The girl came out of the bathroom and tried to bar the door. I surmised by now that the remaining guy didn't have a gun on him so I tried to force my way out of the door. He began to choke and restrain me (as well as the girl) and somehow my adrenaline kicked in and I just was able to force my way out of the room and ran as quickly as I could.

I called 911 and within minutes the cops were there. They drove me back to the parking lot of the hotel and luckily my car was still there. At first I lied to them about how I had met the girl but eventually after calling my cousin who is a cop in LA, I decided it was best to tell them the truth.

Once I did explain everything truthfully to them (which I'm sure they already knew since they kept asking me if she was a hooker or not), we were able to open up my car and fortunately my wallet was still inside.

So basically I lost $80 and my car keys but things could have ended much worse for me this evening.

I'm still shaking from the whole incident but I'm grateful the police let me go and I was able to get my spare keys from home.

I still can't believe I fell for their scam, especially since I've read about that same ploy where the girl goes to the bathroom with the money as soon as you give it to her.

Hopefully this will help anyone else in the future avoid the headache I went through this evening.

So Thursday night and Friday we were texting and Friday morning we were setting up an appt for that night and she texts saying she needs some help as she needs to pay her room. Initially I was hesitant because I didn't feel like getting screeed over. Well we talked more and she told me her story, she's homeless, sick baby etc and that if I could help cover her room she'd do anything to make it up. She eventually offered me 3 sessions if I could cover the room. I chose to believe her and sent her the $$ We continued to talk and had plans for me to come by that night. She sent pics and continued to text. At one point her phone started acting up and she actually texted me from another number and she said she just wanted to make sure we were still able to talk and that she didn't want me to think she ghosted me. The texting continued and closer to our appointment time she asked to push it back a little as she is trying to get medicine for her sick child. I'm cool with it. I text her again and she's waiting for her baby to be picked up by her ex and well that's the last I heard from her. I'm mad at myself for letting the little head overrule the big head. Lesson learned. Crazy part is had she not scammed me she would've made much more with me as a client as I had planned to see her frequently. Live and learn. All I will say is Beware.

I have noted several providers in this Motel asking for face pics of hobbyists. This in accordance with this report, seems to indicate that they are trying to compile personal info. Also if the first guy merely followed you home then he can steal your car at any time in the future, since he has the keys.
