Nice Post
I agree with the cutting and pasting. Although I absolutely believe we should do everything possible to expose stings. This includes providing details on how it happened, when such details can be helpful in recognizing/evading future stings.
But I whole-heartedly agree we should not be indirectly benefit the yellow journalism of publicizing arrestee details, such as does Howie Carr and others who go out of there way to "shame" mongerers for their "crimes" (and even Carr fully admitted in the past he did it because he was sick of being solicited by SWs at the Herald building -- well problem solved as far as that goes.)
If you'll excuse my rant -- I am totally against the public shaming when the "crime" in question is no more than a commercial transaction between two adults, and unlike all other criminal vices is only illegal by virtue of the fact money is exchanged. There is no justification for prostitution to be governed by criminal codes. And those involved are treated worse than any other comparable crimes.
Drunk-drivers do a hell of a lot more social harm than hookers and johns, yet you can survive a DUI but if you're a white-collar exec busted seeking a BJ your life is over. Even a blue-collar guy is going to be an a world of hurt and shame.
Imagine someone losing his job, family as well as all public and private dignity for buying home-brewed beer rather than commercial off the shelf? The notion is preposterous and the only way you could possibly be arrested if you were doing so with such recklessness that you had become persistent public nuisance. And even then, as a buyer the worst you could get is an infraction.
But you are arrested (not convicted but arrested) for solicitation, your life is as good as over. And this is in no small part due to the virtual guarantee that your name will be in the press, and that in this day and age it will eventually be seen by everyone you otherwise want to keep it from. So aiding and abetting this process by re-posting such unduly destructive articles is almost as bad. I agree on that indeed.
NICE POST.

I haven't seen one cut and paste posting that gave any sort of pertinent information.
Tess got busted because she was working out of her house and the neighbors complain - it happened to Melissa Wolf in Virginia. That's just escort/sw stupidity 101.
Everyone knows the cops troll CL's looking for an easy bust or entrapment. Specifically Allston/Brighton and Braintree. Look - there is one big nugget of information I just posted withot cutting and pasting anyone name or address. Pretty easy, huh.
It's always good to know when and where the BPD is running Operation Squeeze. But instead of cut and pasting the whole article people can simply say, hey, the BPD was running Operation Squeeze last night in CT.
You are trying to defend the indefensible.
Ever hear of Google? What's written on this board can be easily accessed worldwide.
BTW - Howie is as big a piece of crap as those he goes after. Actually he's a little worst because he's a hypocrite. You never heard him say anything bad about his buddies like Bob Crane, did you...
Good post Web.
If you were busted you'd be worried about the copying of the news story on a site filled with like-minded pervs, rather than about it's appearance in places read by millions more people, few of whom share your attitude and behavior?
Bob Crane the former state treasurer....who left office almost 17 years ago?
What did Crane do that Carr should have gone after him for but didn't?
it happened to Melissa Wolf in Virginia.
Who? Her? http://www.melissawolf.com
I am curious to hear more about the Bob Crane reference too.
BTW -- for what its worth, I was at a party at Howie's house a year ago (hosted by his wife, but Howie was the main attraction for a lot of people). He is the most socially awkward pseudo-celebrity I have ever met. Very different than is on-air persona.
Having spent over an hour next him and observing him interact with people he generally knew, I would bet my life that he is the kind of guy who would hang himself if he received the same treatment he dishes out to arrested mongerers.

Howie,imus
I would say that most of what the two say is for entertainment value only!Look what they did to the "I man",too many doo gooders want everyone else to follow them in a straight line.
Who wants to be a product of the enviornment,I want the enviornment to be a product of me.(A QUOTE FROM A GOOD MAN)
After all you gotta take what you want, not follow the masses, and walk in a straight line like a cow going to give milk. You gotta play big, to winn big, nowdays.

I remember when he used to read off the names. That was some bad shit.
He'd say early on that he'd read the names in one of the later hours of the show, then give the mongers time to call in and take a batch of shit on air or have their name read. I only remember a few calling in even though he only gave them shit for a few minutes and it was weak shit at that.
Of course now, the names are all over the internet and the newspaper.

Phat, yes, Bob Crane the ex treasurer of the Commonwealth. If you don't want to think that he was corrupt to the teeth during the biggest years of out of control state spending then I'm sure you also set out some milk and cookies for Santa Claus the other week too. Howie is friends with a lot of Boston/MA pols that you never hear mentioned in his various media outlets.
Web, most radio personalities are typical AV geeks that we all know from high school who caught a break (Howard Stern, Imus et al). Socially awkward to say the least, and we all know the term 'a face for radio'. I'll give Howie props for going after the brothers Bulger (they both should be in prison) - well actually all three should be. But there were/are unnamed people in Howie's corner too, who would have taken exception to him getting hurt.
I didn't follow your Melissa Wolf link. She's the ex Penthouse Pet who got busted for running a escort circus out of her house in a gated community in VA. I know her (I posted her name against my own rules because Melissa Wolf isn't her real name) and told her she was an ass for running everything out of her house. She just got lazy and stupid.

Its sad to think the US is the only 1st world country that needs a thread like this. LE needs to be busy stopping real crime. I'm not saying its LEs fault but it is the fault of those who refuse to decriminalize the laws.

I didn't say he wasn't corrupt nor did I say he was.
He was a hack and many/most/all political hacks are corrupt or for that matter incompetent, depending on who you ask.
I was just wondering if there were any specific things that Carr should have gone after him for but didn't.

You're right, it's sad that we can't be mature about this crap like Europe is.
Prostitution is the legal in the U.S., it's the states that make it illegal.
State law can't supercede federal law, which is why Nevada can allow prostitution. That's also why trading sex for money indoors is legal in R.I....which is why I'm heading to Cheaters later :)

Melissa Wolf
Cruiser, I wasn't aware of the story but I think that this is the same one you are talking about. She is a ex-Pet and has a relatively high-end home that she is now renting out for "video shoots".
Jeep95 -- I completely agree with you. Great observation. Phat points one of odd nuances to it. It is an unfortunate irony the even in the impossible scenario that Ron Paul were elected President, nothing would change on this front. We could form a lobby, but who wants their name behind funding it.

It is legal indoors in RI because of a loophole created about 28 years ago when the current prostitution law was passed. The loophole only came to light a few years ago when a number of RI MP's were raided, only to have the courts throw out the felony charges because of this strange quirk in the law. Since then, RI has attempted to revise the law, but the legislation has gotten stalled at the state house because the ACLU has successfully argued that changing the law may victimize women who they themselves might already be victims. Of course it may also have been contributions made to politicians by the businesses themselves.
There is no federal law legalizing prostitution. There are federal laws criminalizing it base on interstate commerce. Within the states it is left up to the "community standards" of the individual states, or in the case of Nevada, the 10 rural counties who allow it. Of course the feds put pressure on the states to pass anti-prostitution laws by threatening to withhold federal money for highways, law enforcement, and anything else they can think of if they don't comply. Nevada has very little need for all the extra $ because of all the revenue they get from the casinos.
There is a worldwide UN resolution passed during the Carter administration decriminalizing prostitution, but the US Senate has refused to ratify it for the last 30 years.
AAMP busted today. 2 arrested. Stay away
A AAMP was busted in Dedham on Monday. I believe it was the one that advertised in the Phoenix as 'near Dedham Mall'. They were located at the Jefferson at Dedham Station. Two were arrested.
Also in Dedham a girl named 'Jessica' was arrested at the Holiday in on Saturday. Beware!
