That being said, the use of "they" as a neutral singular pronoun is the result of English being intrinsically gendered. For the entire time English has been around it has adapted to the needs of the people who are using it. It has rules we break all the time, and if those rules are broken by enough of the people enough of the time then we change the rules. The oxford comma is a good example of that. So if you respect the language then adapt your usage of it, that's a good part of why it's such an amazing language in the first place. If "they" now also can refer to a singular person without specifying male or female then so be it.

As far as your transphobia goes, having trans friends doesn't make you automatically not transphobic. Holding on to some myth of linguistic purity in order to avoid referring to people by their culturally accepted pronouns is essentially outing yourself as transphobic. If you hypothetically made a post looking for a female provider and they came in stating that there are more then female providers and that you might be transphobic, it is going to change the narrative.

Taking every opportunity to grandstand exclusivity is alienating and inappropriate in that context. I'm standing up for the use of new language to adapt to the changing times. In particular, the refusal to use those pronouns at all is on of the biggest red flags for transphobia. I think maybe you got that part. The point you missed was, let me say it again:

I'm more than willing to use someone's preferred pronouns if I'm dealing with him / her / they / zhe / zher or any of the 70-some pronouns that have been invented in the last ten years, directly. The problem I have is trying to force an entire community of 10,000 people to monitor their language when referring to providers in general on a site. That, dummy, is tyranny, plain and simple. And if I had known that this person was who "they" said "they" were, I would have never seen "them. " Why? Because I see women, period.
