St. Louis, MO (KSDK). People living and working on South Broadway in the Patch neighborhood say prostitutes have been taking over the street, and St. Louis City police say they are cracking down.

Officers say the recent uptick is mostly on Broadway, south of Bates Street.

"Well recently there has been an upsurge in the number of women that have been walking the streets. Standing on the streets, and jumping in passing pickup trucks and cars and then they would return to the same intersection 20 minutes later and then jump into another vehicle, so it's obvious there is commerce going on," said Steven DeBellis, a South St. Louis Resident.

"I have seen as high as three or four of them at one time in just these two blocks," said Bud Reed, a south St. Louis resident.

Residents and business owners say they are noticing more prostitutes on South Broadway than ever before. People say they're frustrated with the surge in prostitution along the busy street.

Police say most prostitutes work to support a drug habit, usually heroin, and are attracted to the street because of the high traffic volume. The problems reach into side streets and parks including South Broadway Square Park. One resident says she found needles in the park and for that reason she would never take her kids there.

Alderman Tom Villa organized a meeting a couple of weeks ago to discuss the issue, and more than 100 people showed up. Since then police have been cracking down, increasing patrols, and performing undercover details.

"Driving up and down Broadway, which I do more than a couple times a week, I just don't see the activity that I did a couple of weeks ago. I think if they continue to get arrested and continue to get moved on, they are going to move somewhere else and that is what we are hoping for," said Alderman Villa.

There is also a spike in prostitution on South Grand between Chippewa and Meramec Streets, and police are continuing to crack down there too. In the past two weeks they made close to 20 arrests and have charged the alleged prostitutes with "street demonstrations".

Despite the arrests, police say this is a hard problem to fix. They are now going to begin targeting Johns, and are looking into the legality of publishing their names.

Felt like a hat trick, thought I would try to keep it all with the same first letter in the girls names,

After running a few ERRANDS head down south and on bway there are more than a couple, but Grand at Ho Conoco and Grand just at Gravios are current hot spots for finding them, beware of the SWers at Grand / Grav with multiple handlers, and they are definetly out there for sure!

Hit the streets in search of a blue century, can't find the car but find some girl that claimed to be her at the polar pop ho hangout at bway and davis, she walks up in white wife beater and some nightie pants that had dora the explorer on them,

Also on the lot at the same time were redheaded melinda and a pair of girls in a blue taurus seeking some help as well, should have tried any of those three instead of ms blue century,

She was late to show up for starters, sporting a smile with some teeth that werent exactly out of dentists manual, decent body, about 28 white maybe 5'6 125 with 32a chest,

Gets in car agrees to place and services, we head to a place for the fun,

Get there and she informs me that instead of having her for 60-90 min that babysitter needs to go and we only have 20-25min for our deal,

Get to loughborogh turn going east and she can't remember where she left her car,

Get to virginia I make a left and park,

Ask her if she wants $25+pack of smokes I bought her on way to place for fun or $30.

She chose the $30,

Handed her the $$ she got out slammed door and as I'm pulling off proceeded to throw glass bottle at my car,

Missed thankfully or that could have turned negative in a hurry, I left her to find her car, come to find out she is picked up by next guy within 10 min of me dropping her off there,

Go figure,

No I wouldn't see her EVER again and while she has digits I'm just guessing that she probably wouldn't be a positive date in future for anyone else, Sorry no pics!

Head out of there around 9ish after figure TLR will leave Carp into finish what he started and should finish, shutout of Brew crew is a good thing, even if no sniff of Playoffs or Postseason this year,

Saw a traveling billboard, that had me thinkin of heading to the east side of the river, after the game decided better and figured I would just head south,
