Most Columbians have probably heard about the 2 brazen robberies that happened on Sunday. The one on Madison Street can be considered to be on the stroll. I've seen 2 black SWs on Madison and one possible WSW there since April (not a lot of SWs, but some).

Police are investigating two robberies that occurred yesterday, both involving two suspects who brandished handguns and took cash from the victims.
It is too early to tell whether the incidents are connected, police said, but the descriptions of the suspects are similar.
Officers were dispatched at about 2:15 a.m. to 403 S. William St., where a 21-year-old man said two men approached him in the backyard, put a handgun to his head and demanded his property, police said.
The men made off with the victim’s wallet and cell phone, police said. The victim was not injured.
One suspect is described as a black man in his early 20s about 6 feet tall with a medium build. He was last seen wearing a dark-colored hooded sweatshirt, baggy dark-colored jeans and tennis shoes. The other suspect is described as a white man in his early 20s, about 5 feet 10 inches tall with a thin build. He was last seen wearing dark clothing.
The second robbery occurred at 10:20 p.m. in the 1000 block of Madison Street. An 18-year-old man told police he was walking northbound on Madison when he was approached by two men walking southbound, police said.
Both men each brandished a "small frame" semiautomatic handgun and demanded money from the man, police said.
The men made off with an undisclosed amount of cash.
The suspects are also described as a black man and white man. The black man is described as about 6 feet 1 inch tall, weighing 160 to 180 pounds and having a shaved head. He was wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans. The white man was described as about 6 feet tall, weighing 160 pounds with light- colored hair and wearing a dark jacket.

The Madison that I recently saw has dark red hair and a number of tats.
She is a real Jerry Springer case (her uncle drove her to an appointment one time) She was always high on something and talked fast and stopped in mid sentence like she forgot what she was saying.

I get to Columbia once or twice a year for business. I have been to both. It has been a few years since I was at Stephanies. Did not see anything worth tipping. The on stage performances did not impress. Did not try for extras, in fact, left for Vogue.
I have been to Vogue several times. Very pretty girls. Have not found any extras available.

Had a date with the Trib girl who's digits end in 6824...she told me about 27 times that she didnt do drugs, but I will bet everything I have that there are no drugs she hasn't done in the last few weeks. Saw what I thought was a WSW at garth and switzer. I thought she gave me the look so I swung back by and she smiled as she got in a cab and again gave me a look. Columbia police are looking for a man and woman who allegedly robbed a 27-year-old Columbia man early yesterday morning.
The victim told police he picked up the woman at Rogers and Range Line streets and took her to 401 N. Ann St. at her request. He then waited in his vehicle while she entered an apartment.
The victim said he got out of the vehicle as the woman was walking back and then noticed a man running behind her with a baseball bat.
The man demanded that the victim take off his clothes.
The victim said he took off his boots and jacket before fleeing the scene. The man chased him for a while, but the victim was able to get to a nearby gas station and call police. When the victim returned to the vehicle, some of his property was missing, police said.
The male suspect is described as a stocky white man between 30 and 40 years old wearing dark clothing and a stocking cap.
The woman is 35 years old, 5 feet 4 inches tall, weighing about 130 pounds with long blond hair. She was last seen wearing blue jeans, a peach-colored button-up shirt and a black jacket.

Police are looking for two suspects after a man was robbed at gunpoint in central Columbia early yesterday.
Officers at about 3:50 a.m. were dispatched to the area of Ash Street and Garth Avenue, where a 20-year-old Columbia man reported that three men robbed him while he had stopped his vehicle in the area, police said.
The victim told police one of the suspects brandished a handgun and demanded money. The suspects ran away after taking an undisclosed amount of cash, police said.
The man described the suspects to police as black males in their 20s and provided clothing descriptions. An officer responding to the scene saw three people matching the general description and attempted to stop them.
The men ran from the officer, and one was caught after a short foot pursuit, police said.
Officers established a perimeter in the area, and the Ashland Police Department’s K-9 unit assisted with the search. Officers did not find the two suspects.
Maurice D. Figures, 18, of Columbia was arrested on suspicion of second-degree robbery and resisting arrest. He admitted being present when the robbery took place, police said.

Police charge paper promotes prostitution

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) - For years, the back pages of the Orlando Weekly were filled with ads for naughty nurses, sultry coeds and girls with come-hither names like "Rush" and "Roxie."
But the saucy escort service advertising came to a halt last month.
Vice squad officers arrested three of the paper’s advertising sales reps in a sting operation and secured an extraordinary racketeering indictment against the Weekly, accusing it of knowingly profiting from prostitution.
The free alternative paper is calling the arrests an assault on the First Amendment - an argument that might not fly in court, given that investigators say they videotaped Weekly employees selling ad space to undercover officers who openly claimed to be prostitutes.
"We couldn’t believe how easy it was to say, ‘We’re a prostitute. I want to put out an ad,’ " said Paul Zambouros, commander of the vice and organized crime section at the Metropolitan Bureau of Investigation, a task force made up of Orlando-area police and sheriff’s departments. "That has to stop."
Escort service ads are common in the nation’s alternative newspapers and bring in big money. But Richard Karpel, executive director of the Association of Alternative Newsweeklies, said he has heard of only one other similar case, and it involved only one employee and no charges against the newspaper.
"There’s hundreds of ads every week, and it’s not a place of newspapers to vet all their ads," Karpel said. "I think the responsibility of the newspaper is to make sure that they’re not advertising anything that’s explicitly illegal."
The Weekly has decried the arrests as retaliation for running stories critical of the MBI. The paper has extensively chronicled allegations that during investigations of strip-club prostitution and drug sales, MBI officers groped dancers, mishandled evidence and spent a lot of time in nightspots with little results.
The MBI denied the bust had anything to do with the Weekly’s stories. Zambouros said the agency couldn’t ignore the newspaper because MBI officers kept arresting prostitutes who advertised there.
"Believe me, we’ve got a lot of other things we want to do," Zambouros said. But "they forced our hand."
The employees were arrested Oct. 19 and charged with aiding and abetting prostitution and profiting from it. The charges could bring as much as five years behind bars. The employees and their lawyer would not comment on the case.
As for the charges that the Weekly operated as a third-party pimp, the paper could be fined $15,000, and it would be up to a judge to decide whether anyone representing the publication goes to jail, according to the MBI.
The MBI spent two years investigating the paper, accumulating hours of audio and video surveillance. Investigators said the Weekly sold ad space to undercover agents posing as prostitutes, even though the officers made it clear they were selling sex.
The ad reps even tried to help the "prostitutes" by passing on a tip the MBI planted about a fictitious sex sting, authorities said.
Publisher Rick Schreiber said in an Oct. 22 statement: "These charges are outrageous, and we are confident they will be dismissed in due course. The arrests are a blatant attempt to infringe upon the First Amendment rights of this newspaper and its advertisers."
The newspaper also responded with a 5,000-word story condemning the agency. And in place of the Adult Services section, it ran the text of the First Amendment.
Publishers are usually protected by the First Amendment if ads don’t explicitly promote crime, said Jane Kirtley, an authority on media law at the University of Minnesota. But "if there’s evidence that they were collaborating with these people, that might be different."
The MBI ran a similar sting against the Weekly in 1996, and the newspaper agreed to eliminate its Adult Services category, though it kept the massage section. In the past few years, though, the escort ads resurfaced.
The MBI said it has seen a corresponding rise in prostitution arrests - 80 connected to the paper since 2003. The Weekly has made $2.5 million on illicit ads over five years, according to the task force’s calculations.
The Weekly’s coverage of the MBI focused on its handling of two huge strip-club investigations. In both, undercover agents frequented clubs for several months, trying to earn dancers’ trust, and then raided the places.

Wow, what great duty. You get to "pretend" you are the customer of lots of prostitutes and strippers for two years. Then you have to "pretend" to get off and like it. Then you get to charge the whole, two year "pretend" experience to the taxpayers and get paid a salary.

Today at 1:30 PM, I saw a black girl on Garth who yelled "hey" at me as I drove by. I didn't stop immediately. Instead I drove onward but parked nearby and hid the car. Never been to Columbia saunas before, so thought I would try it out. First went to Foxy, first no one answered, but the second ring an older lady answered and said they were too busy, only 1 girl was working. So next I tried Tokyo, and they didn't even answer the door. I figured Foxy might be worth trying 1 more time since about 45 minutes had elapsed, but then Foxy did not answer the door the second time around. So I just headed back home. Guess I didn't know the secret knock or something. If there is any JC action, please let me know via PM.

It is interesting that it happened after Beck left as City Manager. I guess that his administration didn't see a problem with how they did business.
This coming Friday marks the one-year anniversary of the police raid on Lynn's Massage Parlor.
Lynn operated her parlor for 13 years before it was unjustly raided by police a year ago this month. Fuji Sauna had been open even longer, about 24 years, before its raid a couple weeks later on none other than New Year's Day.
December 14, 2006, a day which will live in infamy. Let us bow our heads in a moment of solemn silence for the lost.
The raids are clearly unjustified since brothels/parlors are legal in Canada, Europe, Australia, etc....

Woah, this is a shocker. In 1999, Skip Rowe, Lynn's son, was fingered by someone as possibly being a murderer. Skip was /NOT/ fingered by proper authorities, but by a defense attorney trying to protect her client Mark Hammett. Mark Hammett was later convicted of the murder. It sounds like Skip was very wrongly fingered. I guess it could happen to any of us.

Life behind bars would be unbearable, Mark Hammett wrote to a friend in a letter from jail.
"I’ve always been a country boy and it will kill me to be condemned to this world of steel and stone," he wrote in the document that became part of the evidence against him.
That’s what lies ahead for Hammett, a 35-year-old Columbia laborer convicted yesterday of first-degree murder and armed criminal action for killing his former girlfriend, Christina Kinder.
Less than 30 hours after the trial began, circuit judge Gene Hamilton reached the verdict after 90 minutes of deliberation in his chambers. Hammett waived his right to a jury trial in a pretrial agreement with prosecutor Kevin Crane, who backed away from an earlier decision to seek the death penalty.
A speedy trial was worth dealing away the death penalty, said Kinder’s stepfather, Schane Landreth, who testified he saw Hammett run away after the killer stabbed and cut Kinder 17 times at Colonial Village trailer court.
"I can go on with the rest of my life now," said Connie Glaspy, the victim’s mother. "I feel like sitting in jail the rest of his life is more punishment than escaping" in a death sentence.
Hammett’s only punishment option for first-degree murder is life in prison without parole. Hamilton could order an additional sentence on the weapons conviction, which could result in another 30-year sentence. The judge asked for a presentencing investigation before imposing Hammett’s sentence on Oct. 4.
Hammett displayed no reaction to the verdict as his adoptive parents and members of the victim’s family watched from courtroom seats. Hammett already has spent time in prison for assault and arson.
Hammett’s lawyers asked the judge to overlook the testimony of Landreth, saying he is biased against their client, and of Michael Sexton, who witnessed part of the attack and identified Hammett as being at the crime scene.
Public defender Sharon Turlington argued Sexton should have seen her client’s extensively tattooed arms at the murder scene. At Turlington’s request, Hammett rolled up his sleeves during the trial to show Hamilton the tattoos.
Sexton testified that Hammett wore a long-sleeved jacket during the attack.
Hammett did not testify. Instead, the defense included testimony from two convicted drug-traffickers and four teenage girls. The teens variously described a dark-haired man with a black T-shirt at the scene of the crime, and Turlington said the descriptions fit trailer park resident Skip Rowe, who is the son of the owner of a nearby massage parlor.
Crane called the defense implication of Rowe "outrageous." Rowe, who has difficulty moving his left arm and leg because of a childhood motorcycle accident, could not have been responsible for the attack, Crane told Hamilton. Rowe testified in court that he never wished Kinder any harm.
Trial witnesses described a tumultuous relationship between Hammett and Kinder, who had lived together about 2½ years. Six months before the murder, Hammett assaulted Kinder, and she left him, taking her two children — one of them fathered by Hammett.
Witnesses testified the couple continued to see each other, and one friend testified Hammett and Kinder were together at her house only a week before the killing.
Crane argued Hammett was "obsessive" about Kinder and upset because she had turned to methamphetamine use and prostitution. An autopsy found Kinder had methamphetamine in her system when she died.
Police testified that Hammett denied responsibility for Kinder’s murder. Investigators never found the murder weapon.
But Crane argued that other evidence further implicated Hammett, including incriminating statements in letters from jail and surreptitious behavior — including stalking and spying on Kinder — before and after the killing.
"Christy was a good girl," Glaspy said of her daughter. "She wasn’t perfect. She tried to be nice to Mark. Her thought on that was … she wanted her" baby "to have a daddy in her life."

Isn't it kinda funny that Skip would be living in a trailer park considering his mother is the owner of several successful businesses? Maybe he just rented the trailer to keep an eye out on the nearby parlor.
Skip has since moved from the trailer park. An online search of The Columbia Tribune newspaper shows he lives somewhere else. The search also shows he's about 29 years old and became the proud father of twin boys 2 months before his mother's massage parlor was raided by police last year.
He was arrested in September of this year for second-degree domestic assault ($4,500 bond).
I don't mean to be talking so openly and publicly about Skip. I have never met him, and don't know him, so he may be a fine man. I guess I'm just gossiping about him because, in a way, Skip and his mother might be considered local celebrities. We all owe a whole lot to the strong business efforts of Lynn who brought to Missouri (really the whole Midwest) a wonderful massage parlor--perhaps the best in the nation.
I know that women from all over the Midwest would travel to Columbia to work at Lynn's--women everywhere from Minnesota to Texas.
Returning to the murdered victim in the news story found one post below, Christina Kinder was only 27 years old when she died in December, 1998. How sad.
The article says Ms. Kinder served as a prostitute for a while. I wonder if Ms. Kinder worked at Lynn's Massage Parlor right up the street from that trailer court? If so, does anyone know what name Ms. Kinder used at the massage parlor? I wonder if any of us knew her?

Through weeks of investigation,*KOMU has learned this crime is not as far fetched as many people believe.
We may think of bondage as a thing of the past, but human trafficking is very much alive and well.
'Stop Traffic,' a student organization at the University of Missouri, formed to educate the public on an issue it feels is being overlooked: human trafficking.
Of course, these MU*students*aren't actual victims of the crime, but use case scenarios to learn what a trafficking victim may go through.
"It felt really drawn out,*I tried to feel for it, it was a miniscule amount of time compared to what someone would really go through," said Allie Baber, the co-founder of 'Stop Traffic.'
It's an issue that's been swept under the rug. Many people believe human trafficking only happens overseas and if it does happen in America, it's only the bigger cities. But what groups like stop traffic and the shelter are trying to prove is that it happens everywhere, even in Columbia.
"We've probably worked with maybe four who would fall into that category of human trafficking. There's probably more that we didn't have access to or that don't know about us." said Kelly Lucero, outreach coordinator for The Shelter.
The Shelter, for Victims of Domestic Violence or Sexual Assault, says Columbia's had at least one case in each of the past 5 years. One possible case came up during a prostitution bust*three months ago.
Calling from Boone County Jail, and speaking through a translator, the alleged victim says her boss used fear to keep her captive.
The alleged woman said, "She wouldn't let me go,*I have no car,*I couldn't speak English,*I don't even know how to buy a ticket for anywhere*I could go."
The woman says her boss transferred her to a massage parlor in town and made her work for long hours, while only keeping about half of the pay.
"I plan to go to L.A. where I won't do this job, but she wouldn't let me leave, and*I was put in prison now," the woman said.
She was arrested for prostitution and is also being held on an immigration detainer. Her case is typical of how human trafficking begins. Immigrants come to this country lacking English skills. They need work and living arrangements and end up trapped. Some of the immigrants*become sex slaves.
"When they came here, they were very much forced into servitude, very much domestic sexual servitude; and there was no freedom at all." said Lucero.
Others end up in the labor traffic market.
"Even if sex wasn't involved, they were forced to work 12 hours a day, 7 days a week, again very little contact with the outside world," said Lucero.
Some become the mail order bride. All of which, she says are a form of slavery.
"I'm thinking of one woman in particular a few years back who literally ran out of the house screaming in Chinese until somebody found her and helped her; and*I wouldn't be able to tell you on television on the 6:00 or 10:00 news. You'd have to bleep out all of the things that happened to her," said Lucero.
Now it's not a common crime, but for these groups, even one victim is too many.
"There is a problem of human trafficking in the Midwest, but nobody's there to fill in that vacancy. So that's where we wanted to come in and start talking about what is human trafficking and to say it is actually happening, people just don't recognize it as that yet," said Paige Hendrix, Vice President of 'Stop Traffic.'
The main reason it goes unrecognized is the blurry line between trafficking and prostitution.
"Prostitution, you have your own power and make your own decisions on your life and body, and trafficking, it's like you don't have any choices," said Elvana Lula, the project coordinator for Gender Alliance for Development Center in Albania.
Local law enforcers admit that many prostitution busts, including the current case, show signs of trafficking.
"Some of these massage parlors that use immigrants in here rotate them into a massage parlor here in Columbia, they may rotate them out to one that's owned by the same person in Springfield or another state so that they don't stay too long in any one place," said Boone County Sheriff Mike Stubbs. "That measure being taken by the proprietor is somewhat indicative that it may be human trafficking."
Still, authorities have not filed any trafficking charges.
"We haven't made a case for human trafficking, but through out the years of looking at the signs that they say human trafficking consists of,*I certainly see the signs that as potential crimes that are occurring here," said Tim Thomason of the Columbia Police.
The alleged victim may be a suspect of promoting prostitution or a victim of human trafficking.
"Now I'm in my 50's; how can i do that kind of thing," proclaimed the woman.
As she sits in jail waiting for this case to close, 'Stop Traffic and The Shelter hope the verdict will be the first of its kind in Columbia. If so, they feel this will open the door for other cases in the area.
"As a woman, as a sister, as a wife,*I was just thinking, I'm so lucky*I didn't go through this process," said Lula.
"In the U.S. we're taught everyday that it's so important that everybody gets equal rights, I, as a female have the right to choose who*I want to marry, what kind of relationship*I want to be in and these people who are trafficked don't get that choice," says Hendrix.
It's a choice that's often taken for granted.

Ironic how in places where it is legal and monitored by the authorities this is seldom. Look to Nevada and where it is legal to engage in adult activities, the ladies are checked for disease and drugs while their income is taxed to help pay for the needs of the county. I might be wrong with all of this and could be that I have only half of the story but the places that I visited in Nevada the ladies looked happy and were well paid for their time and effort.

Last time as you may recall, we reported on evidence of human trafficking in mid-Missouri. You may wonder how such a heinous crime like human trafficking goes from third world countries to a small prosperous city.
It's hard to believe that crimes as inhumane as human trafficking could be going on around you.
"We should not be naive to think that because we live in a fairly safe town that there's nobody, that nothing like this happens here," said Kelley Lucero from the Shelter.
"Columbia is a drawing card for a lot of different nationalities, different background people," Boone County Sheriff Mike Stubbs said. "Through our schools here, colleges or what not, so it's an area that would be conducive to something like that."
"We're the main thoroughfare between K.C. and St. Louis," said Lucero. "Who knows who passes through I-70 on a given day and what their fate may be."
It's known to be a highly organized crime.If the suspects happen to be victims of human trafficking, finding that out in the investigation becomes as complex as finding a needle in a haystack.
"We have this suspect of performing sexual acts for money and prostitution," said Stubbs. "If we find out they may also be the victim of human trafficking, or someone brought them into this country, we look and follow that as far as we can go. We don't go into that in deep detail because it's immigrations job."
"I don't know that those questions get asked and maybe that's where the problem lies, if those questions aren't being asked at the time of their arrest, 'hey are you there voluntarily' and all that,' then that's certainly a possibility,"saidTom Dresner, Columbia Police Department.
Often, officers don't ask the questions because they simply don't know that they need to.
"One of the biggest things that needs to happen is that local law enforcement needs to have the training and support that they need to help trafficking victims and to recognize the signs," said Jennifer Kimbal, the PresidentStop Traffic.
And that's just what Detective Young of the Independence Police Department is doing. He sent out letters to every law enforcement agency in the western half of Missouri. Columbia was one of the cities who responded.
"Human Trafficking affects every community: the smallest communities, rural communities and big city communities. To the best of my knowledge, with my training and experience, these cases in Columbia involve human trafficking victims," Detective Jason Young, Independence Police Department said.
With federal money, Independence is providing free training to officers and assisting in cases in other areas, and the problem is growing fast.
"It's going to explode. We're going to get complaints consistently, whereas before the word got out, nobody knew what human trafficking was," said Young.
"Twenty-five years ago, no one knew what domestic violence was. It was abuse, or it was assault and people started to learn okay this is what domestic violence is and began to identify it and call it what it was. And we're in the same boat now with human trafficking," said Trish Stringer of Hope House.
"Certainly, anybody that has the experience in doing that, has advanced training in doing that can certainly help other law enforcement agencies and I think that's what we can gain from Independence and this Federal Task force," said Tom Thomason with Columbia Police.
Knowledge and training are key in stopping a crime of such detail, however, the passion may be more important. As human beings, I would say we have an obligation to do whatever we possibly can to try to end this and I do believe that we can," Tom Thomason, Columbia Police Department.
In order to end human trafficking shelters are helping to get the victims to safety so there isn't a chance of them falling back in the trap.
"We try to give them everything they need, so that then they can get there life back together. So if they have daycare needs, we can take care of that, employment resources, we can help with that," said Stringer.
And cops are training to find the victims, investigate the cases, and put the right people in jail.
"These victims are so beat down both mentally and physically that they don't even consider themselves victims, and that's a very lonely and dangerous place for them to be. Lets collaborate, let's look for these victims, and once we find them, let's take care of the victims and put these guys in jail," said Young.
KOMU Spoke with Detective Jason Young on the phone earlier, he toldus the Columbia Police Department has confirmed their training for the middle of January. Lastly, the MU group 'Stop Traffic' is currently organizing for its anti-human trafficking conference scheduled for March.
Well today was the first day we got a break in the cold weather, so I decided to do some site-seeing. At 12:20 PM, I saw an HWP, 20ish BSW on Garth walking 2 or 3 blocks south of Biz Loop.
Ten minutes later, I saw a 30ish, hwp, brunette WSW walking with two of her black male friends on Providence near Hickman Avenue. I know she was an SW because she gave me the look. She was up for some fun. There was nothing wrong with either of these 2 ladies. If you pick'em up, we all expect a review. Let's hear from some new folks who haven't piped up before or from folks who post only on rare occasion.
Later in the day, when I was able to return to site-seeing, I saw Lauren at 4:10 PM on Garth near Pendleton.

Never got any extra's at the clubs but at one time 1 girl at Vogue and 2 at Stephanie's were offering take out. One of the Steph's girls was working at the place on Big Bear during the day. Does anyone remember a beautiful lady named Cici (pronounced See-See)? She was just one of the most beautiful women I've ever met, either in or out of the hobby.
She had placed an ad in the Tribune in early 2004. I went to a 2-story townhouse near the Gillespie Bridge Road area to meet Cici's friend Shauna. (I know the exact street, but won't say.) I had made arrangements over the phone with their black female friend named Jordan to meet Shauna, who Jordan described as 5'2", 110 lbs., 34C, 21 years old, thin, white.
When I got there, Shauna may have been busy with another customer or something, because she was nowhere to be seen or heard (maybe she was on an outcall?).
After some waiting in an upstairs room, I was introduced to Cici. Wowie zowie! Just a gorgeous lady. Healthy, athletic, thin, brunette, 20ish, pretty voice. I wanted to have a session. I forgot all about Shauna.
There was just one slight problem. Cici had these really weird red holes and marks all over her body, from her head to her toes. I believe I recall seeing one near the side of her lips, maybe one by an eyebrow, some on feet, arms, just eveywhere. I thought maybe she had some kind of disease or AIDS? Chicken pox? I didn't know what to make of them.
I asked her about them. She knew I was worried. She didn't seem to want to tell me what they were. I really wanted to have a session with this young goddess, so I wanted to hear that there was nothing to worry about.
She finally said they were cigarrette burns! I'm thinking can this be true? I had never encountered anything like this before. I told her it was just too strange for me, and I had to pass. This girl had the breasts of a goddess. I was stunned by how beautiful her breasts were. Damn. I still passed her up. I just was worried it was a disease. Police charge paper promotes prostitution

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) - For years, the back pages of the Orlando Weekly were filled with ads for naughty nurses, sultry coeds and girls with come-hither names like "Rush" and "Roxie."
But the saucy escort service advertising came to a halt last month.
Vice squad officers arrested three of the paper’s advertising sales reps in a sting operation and secured an extraordinary racketeering indictment against the Weekly, accusing it of knowingly profiting from prostitution.
The free alternative paper is calling the arrests an assault on the First Amendment - an argument that might not fly in court, given that investigators say they videotaped Weekly employees selling ad space to undercover officers who openly claimed to be prostitutes.
"We couldn’t believe how easy it was to say, ‘We’re a prostitute. I want to put out an ad,’ " said Paul Zambouros, commander of the vice and organized crime section at the Metropolitan Bureau of Investigation, a task force made up of Orlando-area police and sheriff’s departments. "That has to stop."
Escort service ads are common in the nation’s alternative newspapers and bring in big money. But Richard Karpel, executive director of the Association of Alternative Newsweeklies, said he has heard of only one other similar case, and it involved only one employee and no charges against the newspaper.
"There’s hundreds of ads every week, and it’s not a place of newspapers to vet all their ads," Karpel said. "I think the responsibility of the newspaper is to make sure that they’re not advertising anything that’s explicitly illegal."
The Weekly has decried the arrests as retaliation for running stories critical of the MBI. The paper has extensively chronicled allegations that during investigations of strip-club prostitution and drug sales, MBI officers groped dancers, mishandled evidence and spent a lot of time in nightspots with little results.
The MBI denied the bust had anything to do with the Weekly’s stories. Zambouros said the agency couldn’t ignore the newspaper because MBI officers kept arresting prostitutes who advertised there.
"Believe me, we’ve got a lot of other things we want to do," Zambouros said. But "they forced our hand."
The employees were arrested Oct. 19 and charged with aiding and abetting prostitution and profiting from it. The charges could bring as much as five years behind bars. The employees and their lawyer would not comment on the case.
As for the charges that the Weekly operated as a third-party pimp, the paper could be fined $15,000, and it would be up to a judge to decide whether anyone representing the publication goes to jail, according to the MBI.
The MBI spent two years investigating the paper, accumulating hours of audio and video surveillance. Investigators said the Weekly sold ad space to undercover agents posing as prostitutes, even though the officers made it clear they were selling sex.
The ad reps even tried to help the "prostitutes" by passing on a tip the MBI planted about a fictitious sex sting, authorities said.
Publisher Rick Schreiber said in an Oct. 22 statement: "These charges are outrageous, and we are confident they will be dismissed in due course. The arrests are a blatant attempt to infringe upon the First Amendment rights of this newspaper and its advertisers."
The newspaper also responded with a 5,000-word story condemning the agency. And in place of the Adult Services section, it ran the text of the First Amendment.
Publishers are usually protected by the First Amendment if ads don’t explicitly promote crime, said Jane Kirtley, an authority on media law at the University of Minnesota. But "if there’s evidence that they were collaborating with these people, that might be different."
The MBI ran a similar sting against the Weekly in 1996, and the newspaper agreed to eliminate its Adult Services category, though it kept the massage section. In the past few years, though, the escort ads resurfaced.
The MBI said it has seen a corresponding rise in prostitution arrests - 80 connected to the paper since 2003. The Weekly has made $2.5 million on illicit ads over five years, according to the task force’s calculations.
The Weekly’s coverage of the MBI focused on its handling of two huge strip-club investigations. In both, undercover agents frequented clubs for several months, trying to earn dancers’ trust, and then raided the places.
The raids yielded mostly indecent exposure and minor drug charges that brought little prison time for any of the dozens arrested.
Zambouros, in the MBI’s defense, said members of the public "don’t like the idea of cops having to go up to a topless club and getting a lap dance." But he added: "Well, you’re not going to find charges of prostitution unless you pretend like you’re a willing customer."

On a related note, as mongers, we sometimes go through a lot of gasoline. I'm not going to argue the merits of 10 percent ethanol gasoline or normal gasoline. Use whichever you prefer and like. I'll just say that there's a lot of scientific evidence that the production of ethanol gasoline creates as much or more greenhouse gases than simply using normal gasoline. The new ethanol laws just seem to be a favor to big corporate agri-business like ADM, not a genuine desire to help the environment. And, of course, straight ethanol is very corrosive to automotive components--it's basically alcohol.
Anyway, for those who like the non-ethanol, normal gasoline, it's much harder to come by in Columbia as of January 1st of this year. A new Missouri law mandates that gas stations throughout the state must offer the 10 percent ethanol variety. (Previously, only St. Louis stations were under the ethanol thumb.) However, there is an exception to the new state law. Premium gasoline does *NOT* have to contain 10 percent ethanol. Regular grade does.
I think only 3 states right now require the 10 percent ethanol mixture in gasoline. The states are Missouri, Minnesota, and Hawaii.
As of January, most stations in Columbia only offer 10 percent ethanol gasonline now, but there are a couple stations that still offer the old, normal PREMIUM grade WITHOUT ethanol.
So far, I've found that the Sinclair gas station in Prathersville (about 2 miles north of Columbia) offers Premium grade without ethanol. The regular grade, of course, by law has the ethanol. Premium, once again, is the only exception if the station owner wants to offer premium without ethanol. (There are two other exceptions to the law: gas at airports and if ethanol-mixed gas ever costs more at wholesale than normal gas.)
The other station I've found so far that gives you the choice of non-ethanol is the Randy's Market station (a Conoco), also in Prathersville.
By the way, the Sinclair stations in Columbia have the ethanol in all grades, just like most other Columbia gas stations. If you know of other stations with ethanol-free premium, please let us know. Mongers with inquiring minds need to know :)

I spent some time with Victoria from the Columbia CL today. If there were only some way to get the time, not to mention the $ back I would certainly do it.
The picture she posted on 2/5 must be at least 10 years old. She is twice that size and had her hair all pinned up on the top of her head. She looked like she had been doing laundry and taking care of kids all day.(sort of the Ma Kettle look) The service was also what you would expect from someone who had been doing those same chores. Why did I stay? I stayed because she was already plan B. I had an appointment with Peaches, (also from CL) but she was a no show. Out of about a dozen numbers I had, Victoria was the only one who answered the phone. What has happened to our once fine city?

You can blame an overzealous LE that forced out all the AMP's and Lynn's so that they can over build Columbia and make it into a family friendly community.

A point to note about Columbia's strolls is you may drive them 3 times on 3 separate days before you run into street walkers. The strolls here are not as active as in East St. Louis or South St. Louis city.
With Columbia, you have to be persistent, and count yourself as doing well if your batting average is .333 .
On the positive side, the street walkers here tend to be of higher quality and have less wear than the SWs of STL metro.

JEFFERSON CITY -- The owner of a sex shop on the outskirts of Jefferson City says he did nothing wrong.
"It was a stupid mistake of getting [coerced] into giving the party," admitted Michael Barnard, owner of Shakels Secret.
The residential house, which is in an unzoned neighborhood, doubles as Shakels Secret - part strip club, part sex store.
It's been a lightning rod for community criticism after it opened as a business two years ago. Originally an adult store, Barnard brought in live dancers six months ago.
Following a weekend sting operation, the Cole County Prosecutor has charged him with serving alcohol to an 18-year-old and promoting prostitution.
"That charge is that he aided in that by providing premises for the prostitution acts to occur," said Mark Richardson, Cole County Prosecutor. "And knowing that they were going to occur on there."
Authorities set up an undercover party and, acording to court documents, Barnard arranged to have two women perform sex acts with each other for $300 as entertainment.
Barnard said he was entrapped and that all he did was provide a room. He says he had no prior knowledge of what was going on inside.
"Guys in there are not allowed to touch the women and the women aren't allowed to touch the guys," said Barnard, who is out of jail on Bond. "So basically they rented a room and they were just watching two ladies, you know, with each other. And I don't feel that's prostitution at all."
If convicted, Barnard could spent up to 4 years in prison.
He says he'll fight the charges and, if cleared, will keep his business open, but won't allow women to dance inside anymore.

JEFFERSON CITY -- KRCG was the only news operation on the scene when the Cole County Sheriff's Department raided the adult book store and juice bar Saturday night.
Months of undercover work by the sheriff's department culminated Saturday night with a staged private party inside the shop.
We went back to the scene to nail down the facts on just what happened during that private party to land four people in jail.
The plan was simple, but as always, the devil's in the details.
Here's how it happened.
An undercover officer from the Cole County Sheriff's Department made a deal with the owner of Shakel’s Secrets.
They arranged a private party with two female hosts.
The owner told the officer that for $450 dollars the women would perform sex acts, and that the undercover officers could bring alcohol to the party, even though his business does not hold a liquor license.
Once the party got started, court documents say the two females entered the room with alcohol, and then engaged in sex acts.
At that point the swat team moved in and arrested the two women and the bouncer.
The owner, Michael Barnard was also arrested and charged with one count of promoting prostitution in the second degree, one count of providing alcohol to a minor, and one count of permitting alcohol consumption on the premise without a license.
Cole County Sheriff Greg White says another charge may be added Monday to that list.
There were two cars parked behind Shakel's on Sunday. Neighbors say this is a far cry from the cars and people they see coming in and out all hours of the day and night.
Shakel's future is unclear. The sheriff says they're reviewing Barnard's license and his ability to keep the establishment open.
Barnard was released Sunday night from the Cole County jail on fifty thousand dollars bond.
Sheriff White is still not releasing names of the two women or the male bouncer as they are awaiting formal charges.

Interesting story.
The public is never going to be against operations like this until it starts to be disclosed how much each of these operations costs the local taxpayers.
By the time this little sting is over and through the court system it will have cost the taxpayers of that small town several hundred thousand dollars. If someone is actually given time in prison for this "crime" it could easily double the cost to the taxpayer.
I am not sure what the gain is for that much expenditure.
If they had just sent the guy a warning letter from the PA the place probably would have shut down voluntarily.
Of course that is not nearly as exciting as a "sting operation" and unlikely to be heralded by the local media.

The interesting thing about this place, more specifically the owner, is that LE warned the owner, even before it opened that they intended to bust him and shut the place down because it was in a residential neighborhood. Without debating whether visitors are dangerous or not, the point is that LE and the neighbors made it very clear that this was not the proper place for adult entertainment. The owner should have known better from the get-go. A bust (excuse the pun) was imminent. In this case, LE responded to what the public wanted. The business itself was not worrisome, it was just in the wrong location. IMHO
Don't forget the almighty swat team that it took to bring these two high profile ladies and the 1 big bad bouncer into justice.
What a crock of shit, seriously this is a tremendous waste of time and money.

No mater what the cost to eliminate it, Shakels Secrets had to go. They violated the same unwritten comandment that Lynn's did. Thou shalt not shit in my back yard.
There is not one of who has not visited an adult business such as this, but there also is not one of us that would would want to live next door to such a place.
When Lynn's first opened 20 plus years ago, no one cared what happened on the north side of Columbia. Now with all the new development in the area it had to go. There is a new church less than 200 yards from the backdoor, multiple houseing projects, chain restaurants, retail centers, and all this will be multiplied by 10 when the new 763/Rangeline Street is completed.
It is my understanding that Shakel's Secrets was allowed to open because it was in an unzoned residential neighborhood. He was legally able to open because of the lack of zoneing but it was the residental part of the equasion that got him put out.
I don't think I have visited one city where the Ho stroll circled the country club. I have never seen a strip club in a shopping mall , an adult bookstore at the airport? Why would anyone invest money in a business that they should have known could not be allowed to exist?
Should adult businesses be allowed? Yes, but not in my f-----g back yard.

Promoting prostitution: charge will be dropped if owner proves that $ paid to the women was made for their services to the customers (show), not for their acts on each other, and the DA cannot prove otherwise.
Prividing Alcohol to a Minor: charges will not stick unless he distributed or served the alcohold provided by the 2 women.
Permitting Alcohol Consumption without a License: charge may hold unless he has a darn good lawyer.
Providing a House for Prostitution: depends if first charge holds, but not likely.
In all, the DA has screwed this man up, because his business is affected, and he has all those expenses to pay.
A friend of mine owned a strip club and he's been through horror stories. The only thing they got him for at the end was tax evasion (it started with a dozen charges and a $90,000 bond).
(I posted this under jokes but considering the situation in Columbia, it's very fitting here, also. Pretty soon, it will only read "drink beer" at least in Columbia.)
This past week President Bush and Congress allowed each one of us to get a tax rebate. If we spend that money at Wal-Mart, most of the money will go to China , if we spend it on gasoline it will all go to the Arabs, if we spend it on new computers all the money will go to India, or Pakistan for tech support and none will help the American economy.
The way I see it, we need to keep that money here in America, so the only way I can see to keep that money here at home is drink beer or spend it on prostitution, those are the only businesses still in the U.S.
Some of you may not remember this, but for a short time, way back in 1986 or 1987, the Olde Un Adult store in Columbia also operated a strip club either on the premises or in a building a door or two down from the adult store.
The stripping only lasted a short time, maybe a few months to a year (probably 3 to 6 months). I don't know why it didn't last longer. I think I recall there was a protest or two, though.
I was a student at MU at the time, and my feminist principles prevented me from visiting the Old Un's strippers. But one of my buddies had no such qualms, and happily visited with the strippers at the Old Un a couple times.
I'm still a feminist, but I no longer think sex work is unethical or anti-feminist :) ...As long as both parties are consenting and respectful adults, of course.

There's a new adult store that opened up in Columbia about a month ago. It's called Passions, and is located at the intersection of Business Loop and Old 63, right across the street from Westlake's Ace Hardware store.

Some of you may not remember this, but for a short time, way back in 1986 or 1987, the Olde Un Adult store in Columbia also operated a strip club either on the premises or in a building a door or two down from the adult store.
The stripping only lasted a short time, maybe a few months to a year (probably 3 to 6 months). I don't know why it didn't last longer. I think I recall there was a protest or two, though.
I was a student at MU at the time, and my feminist principles prevented me from visiting the Old Un's strippers. But one of my buddies had no such qualms, and happily visited with the strippers at the Old Un a couple times.
I'm still a feminist, but I no longer think sex work is unethical or anti-feminist :) ...As long as both parties are consenting and respectful adults, of course.
Back in 1986 or 1987, I don't think Club Vogue or any other strip club existed in Columbia (but correct me if I'm wrong). In fact, the building Club Vogue uses today housed a band-playing night club called the Blue Note. (Today the Blue Note is located downtown. Many of you are probably familiar with it.)
It would be nice if the Old Un adult store brought back the dancing ladies, but I guess they got outta that business before the heat came down on 'em, like the heat came down on Shakel's Secret last week in Jefferson City. Like the news story mentioned, Shakel's had been strictly an adult store before adding the dancers 6 months ago.

I didn't go to the Olde Un back in those days but I can relate stories from people that have/had worked there since it's days over by the court house.
1. Back in the Court house days they used to have a theater that showed 8mm movies. Back then it was against the ordinances to show hardcore porn so they had a set up of 2 projectors, one of hardcore one of softcore. When LE can in to check out if anything illegal was going on they would go from one projector to the other.
2. About the dancers at the Olde Un I heard that they only worked certain times and not every day. One of the dancers rumor has could tie her lips into a knot. I can't say if anything extra was offered from the dancers.
Things have changed since they added the couples theater in the back. It seems they had a good turn out for the first year of it but it has tailed off since. They have nothing numbers wise like the Colony has but then the Colony sells alcohol where the Olde Un can't. I can say things were as wild at the Olde Un as they are at the Colony. It seems those times are few and far between though.
Unusual. According to an "Arrests and Summonses" page on the Columbia Tribune's web site, someone named Xue Lan Bian was arrested for promoting prostitution. The arrest happened about a month ago, in late January.
Here's the citation:
Xue Lan Bian, 52, of Torrance, Calif., promoting prostitution, $4,500 bond.
Bian is the same Chinese woman whom police arrested in September for operating "A.M. Chinese Relaxation Treatment" at Midway Travel Plaza.
So I wonder if this is a second charge against her for again promoting prostitution--maybe one charge in September and another one in January?

Shakel's Secrets reopens

JEFFERSON CITY -- After last weekend's sex shop bust at Shakel's Secrets, in which the owner along with three others were arrested, it seemed, and neighbors hoped, that the store would be closed for good.
But we've been receiving calls from viewers since Friday night saying that they're seeing the return of flashing lights and open signs at the business.
Shakel's Secrets is once again open for business.
But it's not exactly business as usual.
Owner Michael Barnard confirms to KRCG Saturday night that the adult store has reopened its doors.
Neighbors tell me the return of the flashing lights at Shakel's Secrets signals nothing more than the return of the red light district here in this residential neighborhood, just one week after the owner was arrested for promoting prostitution.
Barnard declined an on camera interview, but he maintained his innocence.
He said his lawyer told him Friday afternoon that the prosecuting attorney gave the go ahead to reopen the store, since his business license has not been removed.
Cole County Sheriff Greg White says it's out of his hands and that Cole County and the prosecuting attorney in the case are responsible for reviewing Barnard's business licenses.
Barnard says he has a court date on April 4th, he says you can expect the store will remain open until further notice.
Cole County prosecutor Mark Richardson says the two female strippers and the male bouncer who were also arrested last Saturday night have not been charged with any crimes.
Barnard was charged with one count of promoting prostitution, one count of providing alcohol to a minor, and one count of permitting alcohol consumption on the premise without a license.

The department has been scoping out what they call a popular national website that advertises prostitution and escort services to people in our area.
"We are aware of this particular site and we will are obviously watching for other sites that may come up, or may already be in existence, so as those things come to our attention we will be looking at those sites and we very well will be conducting further sting operations.” Said Captain Doug Shoemaker, Jefferson City Police Department.
The four have not been formally charged yet [as of March 14].
The Jefferson City Police Department says they will continue to monitor the web site and continue making arrests.

I have had two different appointments with her and she was a no show both times.

"Now based on what appears to be one or two events, they call him a habitual offender of prostitution laws, and I just don't see how they're going to be in a position to back up either case without stretching the law as to what constitutes prostitution far beyond what we understand it to be." Said Daniel Dodson, Barnard’s attorney.
"I think it's something that affects our community as a whole, and therefore is worthwhile doing to file this injunction and seek an order from the court." Said Richardson.
The prosecuting attorney expects a judge to be assigned to the civil case this week.
But it could take four to six weeks for a trial date to be set.

The county prosecutor is just following the same playbook that the county attorney in Jasper(Joplin) uses to try to keep adult bookstores shut down in that area. Keep taking them to court to use up all their funds so they can't stay open. The county has deeper pockets than your locally owned adult business. The Constitution doesn't mean much these days when you got people forcing their morals on others.

I happened to be driving in the downtown area today at 12:30 PM and, to my surprise, saw a lady who gave me the biz look. Columbia police are investigating a rape reported by a Columbia woman who said she was attacked over the weekend by a man who offered her a ride in his vehicle while she was walking home.
The woman, 24, told police she was walking along Range Line Street early Sunday somewhere "in the country" when a man stopped his vehicle and asked whether she wanted a ride, police Capt. Brad Nelson said.
The woman had been walking home from a friend’s house on Range Line, where she had gone after spending part of the night at Cody’s, 2508 Paris Road, Nelson said.
The woman reported the attack Sunday afternoon, telling police it occurred in the man’s vehicle. She described her assailant as a black man driving a four-door SUV.

Six women arrested in prostitution sting

Columbia police yesterday arrested six women on suspicion of prostitution during a sting at a Columbia hotel after receiving “numerous citizen complaints” about classified advertisements placed in the Tribune and online.
Columbia police Capt. Brad Nelson said about 20 officers from the narcotics, community services and patrol division participated in the sting from noon to 10 p.m. yesterday. A seventh woman was arrested on a felony drug charge. Nelson said police had been receiving the complaints for years and decided to conduct the operation.
“These types of operations are certainly complaint driven,” Nelson said. “If the public makes complaints they expect us to do something.”
Nelson declined to identify the hotel. He said police randomly chose it and management may have been unaware of the sting. Arrest reports from the police department identified the location as 1900 I-70 Drive S.W., the address of Days Inn Hotel and Conference Center.
Officers placed calls to ads in the Tribune, the online service Craig’s List and other Internet sites, police said. Arrangements were then made for the suspects to respond to the hotel and they were arrested once it was clear that the suspects were offering sexual acts in exchange for money, police said.
Those arrested on suspicion of prostitution were: Julie L. Miles, 27, of 2701 E. Nifong Blvd., Lot 107; Shannelle I. Tillman, 25, of 2309B Creasy Springs Road; Kendra R. Ayers, 23, of 8 Leslie Lane; Ebonie T. Brooks, 31, of Rocheport; Tiara D. Jones, 24, of 1508 Sylvan Lane; and Alexandra L. Wells, 18, of 1507 Raleigh Drive. Miles was also arrested on suspicion of misdemeanor possession of marijuana and for a municipal warrant for failure to appear in court.
Charmaine E. Brown, 29, of 107 Third Ave. was arrested on suspicion of felony delivery of a controlled substance after officer allegedly found 1.5 grams of crack cocaine, police said.

The entire day, makes one wonder if LE might have tasted the selection themselves. I don't see where craigslist is a problem. The Trib ads are out in the open in the paper and have been there for years, craigslist you actually have to go looking for the ads and the ads have not been there as long and are fewer.
I think that it might come down to that LE doesn't want to tangle with the gangs/drugs because they know the gangs will shoot at them. Drugs have been a problem in Columbia and will be a problem till LE decides to do something about it. I have never seen high schools kids partake in AMP's or the strip clubs but no one can't tell me that drugs aren't all over the schools.

Look, I care less what people do. In the past I used to visit Ms. Tease, Lynn's, Foxy, etc. and some Trib girls. I see nothing wrong with having some fun, but you have to face facts. I think that by making it a point to explicitly state that their ads were not offers of prostitution and in many cases stating their rates they blew not a smokescreen but distinct smoke signals which ultimately led to their arrests.
If you check Case net not all the girls listed in the Trib. have been charged.
Don't know if they're working with LE or just didn't have enough on them. Just thought I'd let that out there.

I do not post much, I have gotten away from the hobby. But every once in awhile I check in to see what and who is around.
I seen on CL someone named Mia #6226 I got a room as I was passing thru town. She is very pretty I would give her a 8-9 on looks. Went for the hour, All was great till she got the clothes off. STING STOPS PREGNANT PROSTITUTES

Law enforcement agents break up an unusual prostitution ring in Camden County. Four women were arrested Thursday on suspicion of prostitution at a hotel in the Lake Ozark area in an undercover sting operation.
Deputies found the women through an internet advertising website. Three of the women are mothers-to-be between the ages of 18 and 22. One of the alleged prostitutes was eight months pregnant, another six months, and another three.
A fourth woman suspected of prostitution was also arrested on an outstanding warrant and is being held. The other three have been released with formal charges pending.
The Camden County Special Operations Unit and the Lake Ozark Police Department conducted the sting.

Oh did I have some fun last night. It's dark out so I can't see who's inside, but he then pulls into the Break Time, and I see it's a young black man with a smokin' hot 20-something white chick. I drive onward headed for home, but begin to wonder if these two were trying to earn a little extra cash themselves to do their own partying. Maybe he wasn't pullin' into Break Time just for some gas. Hard to say. Did he want to offer the chick, or maybe he wanted to sell some drugs. Really can't say, since I didn't stop. Next time somebody honks at me on Garth, though, I'll pay particular attention, so as not to miss any opportunities.
By the way, there were plenty of boys-in-blue out last night--and I say that respectfully, as Garth would be untraverseable if it weren't for police patroling the area. There have been some shootings in recent months in the area, so it's nice to see the police out there. Saw 4 or 5 police cruisers in the AutoZone parking lot across from Break Time. Looks like they were detaining and inspecting a red car. (The police cars were gone by the time I encountered the honking Corolla near Break Time.) Also saw two squad cars detaining and inspecting a green car on Worley near Mary Street. The important thing about this post is that Vanilla is bad news, on this I agree 100%
I agree with the others. Too many rules can make a session a whole lot less fun than it could be. I can see how they might want to be careful in what they do so they don't get pinched by LE, but getting too paranoid will only hurt your business.
I was checking on CaseNet and Vanilla got busted in Camden County on July 24 for the same thing. She's getting a bit sloppy to get nailed so quickly after the Columbia bust. Obviously there is a way to do business in a pleasant manner while covering your six at the same time. All one has to do is look at many of the Trib and MP girls. I have heard that the StL CL in the past had a lot of listings flagged. It was rumored that some of the ladies didn't like the competition so they would flag others ads.

It is common for competing providers, guys with grudges, or even "morality police" to flag providers' ads. In Kansas City, many ads get flagged within moments of getting posted. Lots of people think certain agencies are flagging independent girls' ads, but whoever is doing it the ads go away quickly.
I've heard rumors of church groups or anti-prostitution activists flagging ads. It certainly takes a concerted effort. CL won't remove an ad with just one flag. You need a bunch of people clicking the "Spam" flag for it to remove an ad.
If you are going to reference a Craigslist ad in a post, it is a good idea to at least copy the text of the ad, if you can't get a screenshot of the whole thing.

BOONVILLE (AP) -- A truck driver fatally shot a man who was trying to rob him at an Interstate 70 rest stop, apparently after the man's girlfriend and another woman approached the driver to discuss soliciting sex.
Scott Brandt, 26, of Boonville was shot in the chest early Monday [1999] by Michael Gates, 29, of Kansas City. Gates then drove a few miles into Boone County and reported the shooting to authorities.

As Gates turned his back to the driver's door, Brandt and the other man opened it, tried to pull him out of the truck and started pounding him on the head, Wolfe said.
Gates reached for his gun, a 9 mm semiautomatic pistol, which was in the sleeper berth of the tractor-trailer. He fired at Brandt, Wolfe said. The women got out of the truck, and he drove away. Brandt later died at a hospital.

JEFFERSON CITY -- Michael Barnard, the owner of the controversial Shakel's Secrets sex shop, and juice bar [lap dance club] in west Jefferson City, pleaded guilty Tuesday in a Cole County courtroom, but, to a lesser charge. KRCG's Mallory McGowin has the latest in this now six-month ordeal.
Michael Barnard was initially charged with promoting prostitution and supplying alcohol to a minor after the Cole County Sheriff's Department raided the store in March, but on Tuesday morning Barnard pleaded guilty to a reduced charge, attempting to promote prostitution, a Class A misdemeanor. He now faces two years of unsupervised probation.
"He acknowledges the conduct of having set up, basically, a bachelor party, two girls interacting situation and the prosecutor's legal conclusion was that that constituted promoting prostitution and we didn't argue with that," says Barnard's attorney Daniel Dodson.
But that's not all for Barnard. He also has to close the doors to his business at 403 Arden Drive for good. Barnard also agreed to
the terms of a civil injuction filed against him and his business by the county prosecutor after the bust. He can not conduct any business from the Arden Drive location ever again. The injuction now gives Barnard the go ahead to sell the residence to an unconnected third party.
But why was the original charge against Barnard amended? To speed things up.
"It was amended to expedite a resolution that we are hopeful that the community is accepting of in that it gets what we sought to accomplish done. That is Mr. Barnard out of any type of illegal business and out of any business at all at 403 Arden Drive," says Cole County Prosecutor Mark Richardson.
The store was set up two years ago in an unzoned residential neighborhood and evoked an outcry of community disapproval. The prosecutor hopes the property will now go back to being used for a residential purpose, but cannot gurarantee that will happen.
The civil injuction will go into effect as soon as Cole County Judge Richard Callahan gives it his approval.
Michael Barnard's attorney says he is permanently out of the adult entertainment business and is looking forward to running his long-established jewelry store.

Last night I spent some time with Victoria from CL. She wanted twice what most of the locals do, but after some negotiation we agreed on an amount. I'm offically 0 for 6 on stroll success. I tried again today around 2pm near garth and business loop I spotted what I thought was a bubble-butted BSW.
