HAMMOND | Five men were arrested for patronizing a prostitute in an undercover sting operation near downtown Wednesday afternoon, police said.
A female police officer in civilian clothing and wearing a radio was propositioned by Scott 43, of Cedar Lake; Gary 65, of Gary; and Kevin 21, and Thomas 63, both of Calumet City, police said.
A fifth man, who was not named, attempted to escape and led officers on a brief car chase into Calumet City, Hammond Police Chief Brian said.
The was taken into custody with no injuries to himself, police or bystanders, Miller said, and faces extradition to Indiana.
"The man managed to turn a misdemeanor arrest into multiple felonies," Miller said."I guess if you're going to play, play big."
Bond on a charge of patronizing a prostitute is $500 for Indiana residents and $1, 000 for those who live out of state, with an additional cost of at least $105 for the return of any impounded vehicle.
On State Line Road Fri evening around 9 a hot Latin girl with reddish hair and awesome figure. A couple blocks south of hospital. There was a young black guy hovering around her. She looked too clean and well fed for the area. I passed. She stayed at same spot, standing on the curb. Something seemed off. I figure if she's real, she'll be out again. HAMMOND | Surveillance cameras designed to send video footage to the Hammond Police Department are being installed at four locations in the city.
The cameras are a first for Hammond, but the technology is widely used in Chicago. The intersections receiving cameras are Lyons Street and Tapper Avenue; Calumet Avenue and Carroll Street; Sibley Street and State Line Road and Lyman Street behind Harrison Park.
Hammond Police Chief Brian said the cameras will allow police to view footage if a crime occurs at one of the intersections.
'We look forward to them going up, ' Miller said. 'These are pretty high speed cameras that get pretty good resolution. '
Chris, Hammond's information technology director, said the cameras will go live in about two weeks. Campbell said the cameras will route the footage to police dispatch and also record for later viewing.
Testing on the surveillance network began a year ago. Campbell said if the cameras work well, he could see Hammond placing them in more locations.
A study released last year by the Urban Institute's Justice Policy Center found cameras in Chicago's Humboldt Park neighborhood were responsible for an approximately 12 percent drop in crime. Yet, in a different Chicago neighborhood, cameras had no impact.
The study also found cameras monitored by trained staff yielded better results.
'We think that's because when you have someone actively monitoring the cameras they can catch crimes in progress, ' Nancy, the policy center's director, said. 'That really sends the message to criminals that the cameras are effective. '
Hammond City Councilman Anthony, D-3rd, said residents have been vocal about shootings and other crimes happening near city parks, and he hopes the cameras will deter incidents.
One camera is near Martin Luther King Jr. Park east of Hammond City Hall with another by Harrison Park.
'Hopefully that will deter the crime, ' Higgs said, 'and prevent those types of instances from happening. '
Outside of Hammond, the city of Gary is hoping to obtain federal funding to install cameras as well.
Gary Police Chief Wade worked for the Chicago Police Department during the roll out of the city's camera system and said the footage helped police solve crimes.
'We need them here in Gary in certain areas. Especially in the business area down Broadway, ' Ingram said.

Marcus 37, of Merrillville, was the only 'customer' apprehended as plain-clothes detectives cruised the Broadway corridor from Midtown to Glen Park in search of prostitutes.
Sullivan, a 15-year veteran of the fire department, was driving a city-owned utility truck when detectives saw him stop at 17th Avenue and Delaware Street about 9 pm Police watched as the driver spoke to a woman standing on the curb.
The woman joined the driver and police then followed the car through Midtown streets, to an ATM at 5th Avenue and Adams Street, then back to Midtown, where police stopped the truck at 20th and Virginia.
The woman, identified as Diondria 21, was arrested and charged with prostitution. She told police she asked Sullivan for $20 for oral sex.
He was charged with patronizing a prostitute. Sullivan bonded out of jail a few hours after he was arrested.
Brown and five others, including two men posing as women, appeared in Gary City Court Wednesday. The defendants who pleaded not guilty are all set for trial on Dec. 5 and were being held on $750 bail.
All six were tested for drugs and most showed cocaine in their systems, Judge Deidre Monroe observed.
The judge referred all six to the Aliveness Project for an HIV evaluation.
In addition to Brown, others arrested were:

Darsha 21, of Jennings St, who told the undercover officer '$60 gets you some, ' the arrest report states.
'I was at the back of my friend's house and the guy pulled up on me, ' she said.

Not sure this helps but I heard from some folks that the SWs along Stateline stay on the Il side more often than not.
I saw a few just east of the now closed bakery. IMHO, the area just doesn't seem safe enough to pick any of them up.
I've been driving around state line and haven't seen any action. Anyone know where else I should be looking?

Got to say, I'm missing the good old days of being able to drive down Bway and scoring a BBBJCIM from a decent SW for less than these damn backpage prices. Twice in the last two weeks I've been out that way and just drove the street from like 45th to 16th for a half hour or so, nothing either time. One day was around 11am and the other was about 4pm. I had been trying on my way in to work now and again, but that's like 3am and it's nothing but HeShe's. Sorry just getting nostalgic.
I seem not to remember those days out there, most of the ladies had AIDS and were so high they couldn't walk. Just a quick update for The Line. I made a run to the line tonight and to my surprise I saw two ladies out tonight. One was black. She was working it on the Cal City side on Pulaski and the white girl was on State Line Working it near the Bakery. It was cold and snowing a bit so I couldn't really see if they were ok looking but both had nice bodys! I was really tempted but decided to hold on to my money tonight. I made my run tonight around midnight if that helps anyone.

Man was it snowing last night on state line Road!! I stopped to talk to a buddy of mine. We met at the bakery in the parking lot, neither of us thought we would see anything. It was around 2 am and a black girl walked up to our cars and asked if we were cops. Game on! She gets into my car and I give her 8 bucks to snap a few shots of her. The Heights used to be a prime area. Now, forget it. The closest you get in the Heights is Jimmy's, a low end mostly actionless strip joint on Rte. 30. If you want street action, head up Cicero Ave to a mile north of Midway Airport. If nothing, head to 47th St. And turn right. Search intil you get to Western Ave.

Having RTFF, I have not come up with much advice on decent motels in the SLR area. I want somewhere that is relatively safe and a reasonable standard and not very close to SLR. It should also be the style of motel where you can park outside the room. Also, preferrably on the Illinois side of SLR. I have searched on Googlemaps and there are a few of the type I want but no idea which are safe and a reasonable standard. Any advice would be much appreciated and please feel free to PM me if you prefer. Thanks in advance.

DL.Sorry to break this to you DL but there isn't anything left near SLR worth getting a close hotel for. If you still wish to do this PM me and I will compile a list. I live a few minutes from SLR and rarely see anyone worth stopping the car for.
Been on SLR from the gas station to about 158th and encountered several friendly faces both in the afternoon and evening. Seems to becoming alive again but most of the activity is on SLR rather than side streets.
Any suggestions in Merrillville? The trashier the better!

Was taking a drive to a gas station a distance from my home. Drove down slr it was heavy with ham pd. One ham kept just driving up an ddown the road. Talk to one BSW I've seen her before but didn't pull the trigger because the way they were driving down the street. Becareful out there.
Was traveling on indi, and could have sworn I was getting the eye from a SW. Was on my way back to the barn, so I didn't bother to check it out. A little further on at the next light my uncle was sitting. Don't really think they were connected, but who knows.
Just glad I took care of business earlier so little brain was dormant.

The tall brunette on Stateline is Emily she is really good would def recommend.

I see some walking around the trailer park and hotel off Hwy 20 or what they call Melton Road. It's west of Ridley by about a mile. I think they live in hotel or trailer park. If this is old news, my apologies. I am new and don't know what old threads have discussed.
The area along route 20 in Miller area, use to have allot of strip joints, it was wide open play area. Now it's not that way, it's very run down. Plus stopping along there is something that you take in stride. I have been in that area in travel since the early 1980's but I don't stop along there anymore. You need to decide what you are looking for and be careful in your search in the Miller area.
Nothing last 5 weeks 8 am and 330 pm travels. Someone have any other suggestions even BP has slowed down. Please Pm with some Bway area numbers! Things are so dry now. Even the no tell on Bway alley dry. Someone help LOL. Need to dream asap.

I cruised SLR on Sunday night around 8 pm, from state street to the Mich City rd cutoff and back.
I saw one great looking WSW a small, thin BSW (looked like Courtny Hall from WGN TV) and another good looking WSW. All were north of Ruth St up to Sibley.
It was almost like old times. I would loved to talk to them and get their info, but I was running late.
Happy hunting, be safe and be good to the girls, they have a tough life.

Picked up a decent looking WSW with dirty blonde hair in the late afternoon on SLR, normally its a little too busy there but traffic was slow when she caught my eye on the first pass so I circled back around for recon and made the scoop. Well worth it and she said she is out most days so I'll be keeping an eye out to try full menu next time.

If Crystal decides to come out she is usually out between 9 am to 1 pm ish. She says she is trying to get off the street and get herself a regular place. As usual, you have to take everything she says with a grain of salt. The story changes from minute to minute. Christine was my atf on the stroll. She did tell me that she had previously had open heart surgery, I guess her heart finally failed her. She will be missed.
