Since I'm not local to the Valley area and haven't had any news pushed to me, I Googled her name looking for an update, but didn't find anything from a news source. She's still facing the three charges originally mentioned in the news reports pertaining to her arrest: Illegally Conducting Enterprise (Class 3 Felony), Money Laundering (Class 2 Felony) and Maintaining House of Prostitution (Class 5 Felony). None of these charges seem to be crimes involving minors. She posted bail toward the end of May. Next official action currently scheduled in her case is her initial pretrial conference, set as of now for July 11th.

Maricopa County Sheriff's Office deputies reviewed messages through Securus, which allows inmates to contact the public through phone calls, emails and text messages, that showed Yahrusalem Burkes told Harris to set up appointments with men for sex at certain prices in Phoenix and Las Vegas, deputies said. She also reportedly posted images of cash, discussed pricing for sex acts and wired more than $5,500 to the Cash App account of Burkes' brother between January and July, court paperwork said. Harris reportedly used cash apps like Apple Cash and Venmo to deposit money ranging from $80 to $2,000.
MCSO said she would also record her sexual encounters and then sent them to Burkes on Facebook Messenger for him to see. These acts happened at her home near 22nd Avenue and Dunlap Avenue, deputies said.
In a previous investigation, Burkes used his Facebook account to work with Burkes to smuggle in items like drugs and cellphones into the prison, MCSO said. Meta, which owns Facebook and Instagram, gave data to investigators that showed Burkes and Harris talked about drug sales, encouraging prostitution, and promoting prison contraband.
Securus messages showed how Harris would smuggle drugs and cellphones into prison for him and she bragged about two videos where she had sex with him at the La Palma prison, court paperwork said.
On Monday, court documents said detectives discovered Burkes was demanding $300 from Harris and told her to call the Department of Economic Security for financial assistance. She said she called DES, which questioned her bills being paid when she didn't have a job.
Harris was arrested on Wednesday at her Phoenix home around 8 p.
She was booked into jail on one count of taking contraband into a correctional facility, unlawful sexual conduct within a correctional facility by prison staff against an inmate, one count of money laundering and one count of illegally conducting an enterprise, all felonies.
Her cash-only bond was set at $75,000. It's unclear when she was fired from her prison job.

The police are not going to do anything to the men who they are questioning if they tell them information. They will let them go on their way. If they play the silent game you better believe the police are going to make it very hard for them and possibly detain them just because they can. But since they care more about feeling good about themselves than actually doing good for the community, they make it a felony; I'd strongly argue that if anything, making it a felony makes it more dangerous for trafficking victims, not less.I agree with everything you say here.
To address your statement with examples, there are many civilized countries that have made prostitution legal to make it safer for the prostitutes.

We also need to be much more careful as to asking for services. If you give out a monetary amount and then make a gesture that denotes a sexual service, that could mean you solicited for it and are willing to pay for it. Same with asking for a sexual act and offering money to pay for it.
There are so many freelancers advertising on the different websites I'm not sure I want to take the chance one of them is a police officer.

There's a statute that says most first time class 6 felonies can be treated as misdemeanors for most purposes, and ultimately designated misdemeanors rather than felonies. So it may not end up being much of a change.

Whatever happened to the punishment fitting the crime?The article states that it's because some participants are trafficked against their will and paying for sex gives incentive for sex trafficking. It's another boogeyman in the moral war. I'm not saying it never happens, but I think it's wrong to make it such a big crime. It's like when the country made drinking alcohol a crime. There were some negative consequences but most people didn't have a problem with it.
