BB or not, having sex with anyone runs you the risk of being infected. The covers and the preventive pills help to lower the risk, but you're never 100% safe. I wouldn't say you're an idiot because we're all in this hobby knowing the risks, but there's a lot you can do before, during, and after the session with each provider to keep yourself as clean as possible.

Take doxycycline before and after your bareback experience. Have done it for years with with hundreds of civilians and hundreds of workers, never had anything, ever. Full testing 2 weeks ago, clean as a whistle.

Big Risk. Big Reward. Sound cliché? Probably. Nevertheless, when the return on your investment feels consistently less rewarding, it's time to find a new hobby. Until then, take precautions before and after to help you sleep at night.
