I totally get what you are saying about the tip and all, but the places I frequent (Reston, Vienna, Fairfax) all seem to ask for and expect much more than that. I think what he is trying to say is that it's more of a rule of thumb. Location, Location, Location. Northern Virginia tips are excessive when you compare the value nearby. Most are paying more because they don't want to travel to other areas.

That having been said, I agree you overpaid for the services received. A $40 tip is sufficient for standard NOVA with limited roaming. For an $80 tip I would expect BBBJCIM, something which is very rare on this side of the Potomac. We need to keep prices reasonable or else only the richest mongers will be able to afford pay to play.
