The same reason there are so many bathroom selfies: better light.

Some folks live in some dim places (quite a few apartments are fairly dim, since they usually only have windows on one side.).

Not me; I bought my house because it has tons of natural light, good South-facing windows, etc. I can't stand dark rooms.
