Posts: 478Streetwalker cleanup in Dover
As some of you are aware, there's been a major cleanup going on with the SW problem in Dover. Especially downtown. There was coverage on WBOC news back in August of a plan for offering assistance and rehabilitation to those who are willing to accept it. Near the end of August, 6 SW's were picked up by Dover PD. Instead of arresting them, they were offered food, clothes, shelter, and other resources for rehabilitation. There's a team of specialists who are part of an outreach program, who will keep in contact with them and check up on them. But mainly keeping the communication open, as well as the offer for assistance. At the time of this article, they weren't sure as to how many of the 6 that were picked up would be interested. Christine was one of the ones that was picked up. She told me when we got together in early September, the day after Labor day. She told me they picked her up, but didn't arrest her. They offered her food, clothes, and resources. In fact, when I picked her up that afternoon, she had a bag that was given to her. It had clothes, food, and some reading material. It looked like it came from a local church. She left it in my car and insisted that it wasn't hers. But it was. She was still resistant of the assistance that was being offered at the time. However, things changed drastically for her within the following weeks. So if any of you are riding around looking for Christine, don't bother. She's gone. Just like that!
After I seen her the last time, I ran into her on Sunday the 8th of September. We sat somewhere and talked for at least an hour. Then I didn't see her again until the following week. This was the 3rd week of September by then. That Tuesday, she told me she just got out of the hospital. I seen her that Thursday the 19th. She was sitting on the usual curb on Kirkwood st, right by the Depot. She was in rough shape. As if she was going through withdrawal. I stopped and asked if she was okay. She said to me she just got out of the hospital. Same thing she told me on Tuesday the 17th. As I was pulling off, a blue truck stopped and tried to pick her up. But she turned him down and went and sat on the curb and was leaning over. I didn't see her anymore until I ran into her the morning of the 30th. I stopped and said hi to her and I'm on my way to work. She said something to me about Wednesday. But I wasn't sure what she meant. The next day I stopped at the Depot to gas up. It was October 1st and it was raining. I paid for my gas and went to gas up. Low and behold, there she was with an umbrella, about to go in the Depot. She told me she's moving tomorrow and going to Hawaii for two months, then to South Africa after that. I halfway think it's a tall tale Christine was telling me. But just by knowing her, I wouldn't rule it out being true. Especially the way she had me all fucked up, riding around looking for her! LOL. There was definitely something about her. She wasn't just your average SW. Besides her skills, she was very easy to talk to and be around. As hard as it is for me to accept that she's really gone. I'm not really surprised. I always said to myself that she didn't belong here. Which was probably one of the reasons why I was so ape shit about the info about her. I always believed that she wouldn't be around very long! She sat out like a sore thumb in downtown Dover! One of the main reasons I felt like that was, she had more going for her than all these other SW's. She was not only the best looking one. Imo. She was always dressed very well. Nice clothes. No rags or sweats. And she was always clean. She's been gone since Wednesday, and I'm still riding around hoping I'll see her. Even though I know she's gone!
I've been with a lot of women in the 11 plus years I've been doing this. Out of all the escorts or providers or SW's I've been with. Christine is the first and only one that's ever really got to me like this! Which is very strange for me. Seeing as I really didn't know her that long. Maybe 3 months altogether. I always wished I had met her and lot sooner, but it never happened sooner because someone was always around her. Guess I'm glad I didn't now. There's a reason why we never met sooner. Sometimes we have to be careful what we ask for! I'm really going to miss seeing her in town. She gave me a reason to want to go downtown again. A lot of times, I would just ride around looking for her, not always to meet up. Just so I could see her. It was like reassurance that she was still around. Knowing deep down someday she wouldn't be. As sad as I am that Christine is gone. I'm very happy for her. She apparently made a decision to go in another direction and get her life together. She told me she has experience in being a caregiver for the elderly. So there's no doubt in my mind that she's going be alright. I believe she's going away to get clean and get herself together. The timeline of the two weeks prior to her leaving tells me that. It just goes to show that with the right support, these SW's still have a lot to offer. Not just to a person, but to the community! I told her that I hope everything works out for her and wish her nothing but the best, and that I'm proud of her.
It appears that Dover PD has got one off the streets. Good for them. And it was a big fish they got off the streets. It could start a domino affect. Maybe some others who got word that Christine is gone, will make the conscious choice to get the same help. At least they got one off the streets, so that's a job well done. Now I don't have any reason to go downtown anymore. I'm going to miss her, but I'm really rooting for Christine. I'm not posting this for anybodys benefit. Nor do i expect a response. I'm mainly posting this to get it off my chest so that I can move on. Which i will. I obviously can't talk to anybody about it. Not even my childhood friends have any idea what I'm doing. So this is my way of getting it off my chest. I wish her well. Seems like some of the ones I had good history with are dwindling. Either by choosing to get out of the game. Or other unforseen circumstances force them out of the game. Which is only bringing me closer to the realization that my days of doing this are numbered.
