Pickups vs escorts

When I was 21, I was young and good looking. Had plenty of women suitors and went after plenty of women in my age range. I also would fuck hookers from time to time. I was in the service I moved around a lot. Some nights I would go to the local clubs in whatever town I was in and didn't want to deal with the drama and games some younger women pulled. Some nights I did. Sounds like the OP was travelling at the time and wanted to sample American escorts. More power to him.
Like you, at 21, I was knockout handsome beautiful. I was a poor student but had zero problem finding girlfriends and one-night stands. I started seeing hookers when time became more important in my life. It was more convenient to visit with a woman who wanted one hundred dollars and a young stud to fuck rather than taking my chances and several hours and the cost of drinks at a singles bar. Maybe now, with Tinder, it would be different. But don't some Tinder women also ask for donations to pay the rent, etc?
Once, I found a phone number in a dating magazine (we used to use paper magazines for this). I went to her address, and she was waiting for me naked in bed. If all dating were like that, nobody would go to pros.
One problem with girlfriends was keeping them apart. I wouldn't say I liked the drama when they learned about each other. Pros were only rarely jealous or possessive.

But if you're 21 and good looking, and fairly tall, and not especially overweight, even if you're just a waiter or server in a nice restaurant, or even a coffee shop, you can probably do okay with pretty young women if you have the appearance Of better job prospects or future financial success. It's a lot more meaningful and emotionally fulfilling if she seems to find you Attractive rather than being with you because she's being paid. As I once wrote: "A disadvantage of sex with prostitutes is the intimacy and companionship that are more likely to exist in a long-term relationship with one woman." Furthermore, what will you say if you meet the girl-of-your-dreams (if you think in those terms) and she asks you if you've ever paid for sex? Will you lie? She may want to know how many there were, and she's more likely to accept you if your answer is none or only a few rather than many. Plus, that way you can be with women who speak your language, English, fluently: Free-flowing verbal communication adds enormously to the value of a relationship. Sex gets you only so far. To enjoy a woman's company after enough time has gone by, you will need to be able talk with her freely and fluently.

We ourselves have to live with the realities of the situation.
Pay a woman for sex. I pay them to leave. Poo.

The 3 F rule:
If it floats, flies, or fornicates, it's cheaper to rent than buy.

I suggest trying to have relationships with pretty young women who don't have to be paid while you're still young enough for it to be possible. Then, if you're single or divorced in your late 40s or older, and all you hear from pretty young single women is "I can't, I have a boyfriend" or "You're too old" or "You're not my type" or the like, then Start paying for pretty young women's intimate company.
But be leery of marriage and parenthood because of today's unfair divorce and child support laws. See:

Beware dating and falling in love with all the pretty young womens who moonlight as hookers without telling their boyfriends, fiances or husbands.
Beware dating or getting married at any age without spending LOTS of money for sex.
Beware any "normal" woman who claims she has sex without requiring payment of some kind. She's a liar.

(This web site's automatic editing software automatically capitalizes the first letter after italics, and inserts a space after a closing parenthesis and before a comma. I didn't write it the way this web site's automatic editing software makes it appear.)

Reason: I noticed four rather than three periods works as ellipsis despite this web site's automatic editing software
