Let alone check in, if you don't check in there is always a possibility to cancel even if it says non-cancellable by saying something, once you get keys you're done, money down the drain. Always wait, see in person, then book only when ready to head out to the place, the trick is to scout the place first for last minute availability then propose to meet in walking distance.
