Another Loophole (this one isn't good)
Teenagers under 18 cannot buy pornography, but they can work as strippers in Rhode Island.
The Providence Journal reported Tuesday that there is no state law or municipal ordinance that bans minors from working as exotic dancers.
As long as they have a valid work permit and are off the job at 11:30 p.m., there’s no legal way to stop them, the report said.
The revelation comes on the heels of a loophole in state law that allows indoor prostitution.
Two bills that would have closed that loophole have stalled in the General Assembly.
This seems like a pointless story because I'm sure (or at least I hope) none of the clubs hire girls who are under 18, but it's just more negative press that could keep up the pressure to close the indoor prostitution loophole. Hopefully the legislature acts quickly to require that dancers be at least 18 and doesn't try to connect the two issues.
