But the principal driver for Oil & Gas is economic optimism. Traders are bidding up the price expecting improving economies.

Delta may dent that but if we flip the narrative, the reason Oil & Gas were so low in the previous year or so is because of the Rona. Nothing that Trump did drove gas prices down except maybe on the margin because of his drilling policies.

You may recall at the peak of Rona hysteria, oil was negative for a brief time.

We financially crippled our opponent. The USSR. And won, we left this war as the world's only superpower. For many years we enjoyed this advantage. You see the news, Russia has supersonic nuclear war heads. We had this shit since the late 60's. China and Russia have half ass stealth aircraft. We had this since late 70's. And trust me our military is far superior than them. That's if the politicians stop playing general and leave the combat to the trained US military. Well since you are talking about gas prices I will give you know it all's the two principle reasons gas prices are up:

1) gas prices track with oil prices to a great degree (not complete because of the impact of refining / refineries) and both are playing on the supply / demand curve. Since Nov3rd. Since someone once to peg it to Biden. Demand has gone way up because Biden is doing a better job with Covid then the previous admin. People are out and about driving way more. Cabin fever- and thus demand is up, oil companies are happy and screwing us since the actual cost of oil to get out of the ground hasn't changed in 9 mos.

2) have you ever heard of "summer blend" gas go's up about 50 cents a gallon in late Mar as the refineries start making the. Ore expensive Summer blend. Look I up.

The President does not have the ability to set gas prices! But he does have the ability to curb them from the ability to allow some of the federal reserves to be released for sale to flood the market with more crude to lower crude price, which in turn lowers pump price.

I want to know which of you oil moguls has the biggest share of the oil market? BTW the price of crude will be lower in a few months because of other countries shutting down again, if the offset of turmoil in Afghanistan doesn't freak out the market.

The government has to buy fuel to refill the tanks, increasing demand, and raising gas prices even though the population isn't using more. It's not an unlimited supply. The reserves are only good for 3 months of normal use. Using hte federal reserves as a temporary stop gap to temporarily suppress gas prices is not a viable solution.
