So keystone oil would simply be bid up and sold to Europe, China, Michigan or whoever bids the most.
Now if the US put a legal stop on exports, and throws Europe into an oil shortage crisis, then. All hell breaks lose, and Russia wins again.
Global demand will always equal global supply.

Why would oil companies drill more oil to lower prices? They would have to spend a ton of money to ramp up production and there is a lag. In 6 months to a year from now when that increased production comes online, maybe oil prices have come back down. The right thing to do as a business is to just keep pumping the same amount and count your money.

It doesn't mean we keep it all for ourselves. It's still a global market so US producers can still sell to foreign countries (that aren't banned) at the global market price. So yes, yes, yes it does matter what the demand for oil is in other countries.

Especially in respect to the difference between oil production (that's the drilling for oil part) and the oil refinery part (that's the process that turns the crude oil into gasoline). Then, of course, there are the distribution costs but we'll save that for another day.
I would expect an expert to know, for example, not all oil is the same, there is heavy crude (sour) through ultra-light crude grades (sweet). US oil refineries for the most part are set up to refine the heavy (sour) type crude. This is the type that comes mostly from Russia, Venezuela, Western Canada, Saudia Arabia and other parts of the middle east. Much of the oil produced in the US is too light to refine in US refineries and is therefore exported to refineries that are mostly in Europe.
So the US can produce a trillion barrels a day of light oil and your still going to have to ship it somewhere else to turn it into gasoline. And that oil is still going to be priced based upon the global commodity markets.
Why is this, well, it ain't rocket science, refinery profits! They make more dollars refining the heavy imported oil and they don't give a damn if you like it or not. But they do love gas lighting you!
So if you want to place blame for gas prices at least direct your complaints to the correct department.
