Current SA messaging
I don't have a paid membership right now. I got on briefly and favorited someone, and she favorited me back. I think she is a premium member. There was a message bar on her icon that said 'it's a match!' and 'send a message'. I clicked it and a messaging window opened up, so I was able to type something in there and apparently send it off. It included my email so I could communicate with her off the site. I haven't heard from her and wonder if anyone else has had similar experience. Do you think SA is holding up the message b / c it includes my email (that happened to me when I first joined the site, before I paid)? Or do you think I was mistaken that I could communicate with her even though I currently don't have a paid membership? My message is definitely not in my 'sent' box.

I have the plate. It is a proper plate but does not have the current year's sticker. I found it on Ebay but the wrecker who had it was local so I met up with him and paid cash. Yes, I thought of the point about parking on private property with the plate on not being really an infraction. I have, in a case where I didn't have my cheater, made a point to park so a POT couldn't get the number unless she had a very quick camera. If the SO sees the plate, I have a reasonable story (found it, stuck it into this envelope I had, forgot about it in the trunk), but if she sees the flipper? 'So, what's that for?' unh-uh. Of course, I try to keep the plate in my office, but sometimes you have to have stuff with you at home if you are meeting someone on the way to / from. The next time I get a new car I am going to keep the little plastic envelope the dealer puts on the windshield until your regular plate comes. Our DMV takes forever, and I am used to seeing people who have them on for a year or more. With that I could just drive with no plate. Traffic enforcement in Cali is very lax. They have too many other things to do. In some other states this might not work as well.
I assume one only flips to the "blank plate" or not normal plate only while picking up or dropping off the girl or when she is likely to be around. Then, when one is far enough away to not be seen or photographed, flip the switch and go back to normal / valid plate. Should be less chance for detection than pulling over to a gas station several blocks away, getting out, switching plates and then proceeding to the date. Shoot if one parks appropriately on private property, where is any law broken if a valid plate isn't visible?
But perhaps having a valid story about having a plate covered is in order if one "forgets" and gets stopped.
Sans that, how one drives and parks can be protective as well. After all 19 states do not require a front plate! Looks like most of the ones surrounding VA fall into that. So in those cases, backing in against a wall, parked car or something else can hide your plate. If one is a gentleman and walks the baby to her car and sees her off, then there is little chance of her seeing you ride or plate.
But it sounded like OP had an alternative valid plate he could use on his car. I am guessing it is a dealer plate registered to a work place?
But, hey. It all depends on what level of protection or operational awareness one wants to employ? Everyone has their own risk tolerances and methods for managing risk!
SA Con Woman
Surprise, surprise, surprise! Watch out for LM on SA. Got taken for a G in a blackmail scam. My own stupid fault.

I may come back to this conversation, but I can very easily explain how you have admissable evidence obtain through inappropriate means. The court world, the investigation world is not a clean pristine place. Don't be fooled, do not rely on how you think this is work on paper.

SA filter system does a good job deleting your email addresses sent as a free member. A way around it using extremely vague references to the email. Using dot com is not going to cut it. I have an email account with the same SA name I use. I have successfully used that along with a reference to a warm server if I was using Hotmail as my account. But in the end it ain't worth the trouble for just 10 messages to potential sb's.

It doesn't mean that non-licensed practitioners have no knowledge, but there are good reasons the PI industry is regulated. My work is also highly investigative in nature and has been for 25 years, but I would never tell someone its a good idea to take my word over a licensed PI because I'm not one. Beyond that I don't really have a lot more to say about it that hasn't already been covered. If others want to enlist your investigative services or discuss the topic of investigation in more detail maybe they can contact you via PM? Other than that I think the topic has run its course and I don't really have much more to add on the subject.
I hear your points though and agree with quite a few of them.

Take it for what it's worth, but nothing more. What people say especially via a means that is documented and what they do is not the same. The way law works in a sand box and the way it's applied and adhered to is not the same. There is a burden of proof needed for any wrong doing, many things are misdemeanors and not worth a prosecution offices time. I agree the thread has runs its course.
I wouldn't trust what a licensed pi tells you on a forum, by email or paper.
Absolutely agree. Just for anyone who is really planning to do this, a professional PI should be able to produce all documentation in standard legal formats like FD-302, FD-473. Not because the official FBI format is required for a divorce case of course, but because if the information is not in that format it will look like a hack job in court. Even if in a podunk court that has only ever dealt with hacks, a PI that adheres to the federal documentation standards will be taken A LOT more seriously than one does not. Legal personnel are accustomed to these formats and it will make it easier for them to work with if nothing else, so a client should demand that level of quality of their PI.
Glad we finally found common ground.

More details
Surprise, surprise, surprise! Watch out for LM on SA. Got taken for a G in a blackmail scam. My own stupid fault.
I have often wondered about this. You have to give more details, and specifically more info about the mysterious "LM". I am surprised others haven't queried you. Feel free to PM also if the details are too gory.

Self-archive
Some have complained you can't access old messages on SA if you aren't currently paid. Before my Premium expired, I went in to my mailbox and printed exchanges with POTs to PDF files, so I still have them even though I am not paid up. I did the same with their profiles. Nice to be able to see how they change their patter and photos.

Odd Search Results on SA
So I am my desktop at work searching on SA and I happen to be checking my email on my smartphone and opened up SA on it. To my surprise I see ladies on there that are not showing up on my desktop. A fresh reset on both yields the same thing. At least 10 more members on showing up online than on my desktop. Its been 30 minutes and new ones keep popping up on my smartphone while the first ones still haven't come up yet on the pc. So I am guessing I am tapped into a different server and they don't refresh at the same rate.

Some days I am in the office all by myself so that is when I waste too much time chasing pussy! Nobody comes to the office except UPS around 345 pm so its goof off time some days like today. One business phone call in the last 4 hours.
