Re: Street level hobbying
You make some good points yourself, sometimes it's just not worth it. Am I going to ruin a 40 dollar shirt fighting someone over 10 dollars? Maybe maybe not. But you better have the mindset to kick some ass (or at least try) if you're going to hobby at the street level. I don't care how new your car is, an electric fuel pump can take a shit at anytime, then you're a sitting duck.
Yeah, PM me, I love a good story.
Funny thing is, I consider myself a risk-averse kind of guy, yet others would say the opposite, considering what we all are doing.
Funny you should mention an electrical problem with the car while picking up a hooker; that also happened to me once, years and years ago when I was very inexperienced at this. I had pulled over off Eight Mile one morning, and slet this woman get in. She looked much less attractive once I could see her up close. So I changed my mind and said so, but she wasn't having it. Instead of getting out, she switched the ignition off and snatched the keys, and said if I didn't pay her, we could just wait for the cops, she didn't care.
I got the keys back. Don't remember how -- but there was only a click and nothing. I explained that I hadn't enough money on me and showed her my sparse wallet. She was livid. She said I knew what she was when I picked her up (and therefore should have brought more money). I continued trying to start the car, but it was dead.
Picture this: a middle aged man sitting in a minivan, trying to start it, while a harpy wearing sweatpants and sweatshirt sat in the passenger seat, berating the man. It might have looked like a classic unhappily married couple. But it was the farthest thing from it. I was wondering what story I would tell the police and my SO.
But she got out of the car, perhaps concluding she wasn't likely to see a payday from this loser, and she left. Magically, my car started once I waited a few minutes more, and breathing a sigh of relief, continued on my way to work.
Later, my mechanic told me the starter had failed (maybe the starter solenoid), hence the intermittent failure.
