Call me a vampire, I am through with Sunshine
I have been more than patient with Sunshine Massage (on Lowery, near Kroger's).
I went there literally the week that they opened. Younger, quite attractive masseuse. No extras. Decent massage. Would only do back for half hour.
I returned a few weeks later. 60 minutes. She kept insisting on draping. Shortened massage. Damn near no time after flip.
I went another time for 90 minutes. Again, focused on back. Little time after flip. Insisted on draping.
Last time ever last week. 90 minutes. Average massage. Shut down on everything else.
This place appears to be trying to run off any monger patronage.
Must drape. No teasing. Very short duration after flips. No roaming allowed. Speaks good English. A younger Asian dude at the desk everyone (except once). If you seek four hands, two of the hands are the dude (ha!
I am an athlete and am well-versed in legit massages and there are legit places to get far better massages.
I will avoid Sunshine from here on out. Complete waste of money and time.
Maybe I just rub them the wrong way, YMMV.
For a legit massage at an AMP, I would rather go to China Massage in Nicholasville (at least there is DIY option and a table shower).
Or, if I decide I need some sun, I will opt for Red Sun in Georgetown (where I have gotten some great legit massages and lucked into some great extras a few times).
I agree to avoid backwalking
I've noticed quite a bit of talk about local AMPs on here lately. I have frequented several over the years, with most of my patronage being towards Fuji's. They have tended to be more reliable than other places. For any newbies to the AMP world I want to say this one thing, never allow the lady to "walk the back". I have often enjoyed the massage portion of the AMP experience and had enjoyed having my back walked a few times at the various establishments. Until an incident about 4 years ago at Fujis. The gal there said she was the best there was at walking the back and claimed she was very experienced in the technique. I agreed to it and she began. At first all seemed well, then she got at my lower back and used a technique I can only describe as getting up on the joints of her toes and sliding to the sides. When she did this I heard and felt something pop in my lower back. Initially it did not hurt, but it was a shock enough that she got off. Later that day a sharp lower back pain began. It has continued to this day, with some days being worse than others. So any new folks wanting to partake in the AMP experience, please do not allow them to walk on your back, it isn't worth what could go wrong.
JT.
JT,
I am glad that you brought this up. After the post about the hard massage at RF, I got to thinking about back walking.
The last time I was in China Massage, I noticed the rails on the ceiling and asked about them and she offered to walk on my back. I declined.
I have had no local providers walk on my back. I did have two different providers walk on my back down in Orlando. The first time, I allowed it because the provider was smoking hot. She walked on my back on the floor which wasn't the best for my OCD. The second time was on the table and the masseuse used the rails. She was petite and very thin, so I didn't sweat it much. I wasn't injured either time, but I can see how an unskilled provider could cause permanent (or at least lasting) damage pretty easy with backwalking.
As an athlete, I almost always request medium massages at AMP to reduce injury risks. Some of the providers are actually fairly skilled and I let a few provide a hard massage. The oldest provider I've had at Red Sun (the one who sniffs her fingers), the one who claims to have worked for a chiropractor; I request hard massage with her. The Mamasan at China Massage (younger for a Mamasan), I request hard massage. That's it for around here. Some of the providers who rely on forearms and elbows, I even adjust them down to light massage as all they are doing is just bruising me.
Most of the places where I seek more than DIY, I expect to get a fair massage at best. As always YMMV, but I agree that it seems best to avoid back walking by providers. And if you are in Orlando, expect lots of providers to initiate backwalking.
