Tip Thought
I generally agree with both Smoke (leaving no tip is considered rude) and Maximus (mandatory tips are overrated). The answer likely lies somewhere in between. I seldom leave no tip, both at restaurants and massage parlors but if a massage parlor is going to specialize in massages and offer no extras than I would expect at least an average massage from this type of establishment. I rated 33 Fayette's massage a 2 on a 0 to 10 scale which, if I recall, is one of the worst I ever experienced. No shoulder rub, no foot massage, no arm massage, only 5 minutes on my back. 2 minute back walk, very weak overall. Simply moving around my lower leg is not going to do it. Tipping for that type of sub-par service would only encourage a repetition of this type of poor behavior and negatively impact the next client. Tipping for that type of sub-par service would also make me feel foolish as though I'm impervious and uneducated to quality and my surroundings (recall the comment in The Outlaw Josey Wales."don't piss down my back and tell me it's raining" fits well when you have poor service followed by comments such as "why no tip?" or "good time right?"). Leaving no tip is rude but it is also a key signal to improve the service, if obviously very poor, or find another activity in which you are competitive.
Fly.
I have to agree with ARG, no tip is very rude. Just because we here expect and are used to extras does not mean every establishment is on board with our wants. The business is run by them not us, their rules, not ours. There are many more massage places that don't give extras than those that do. I go to a LMT every week for an hour with no HE and none is expected. I leave $30 every time. Then if I'm looking for more I hit other places during the week. Your massuse did her job and should have been tipped as ARG says $10 minimum per hour.

I assure you I'm not Ninja's owner. I'm just a customer like yourself who's been more than satisfied with each of the women I've seen there, some numerous times.
Because their are Bruce Lee posters all over this spa, most would assume that you are indeed the owner or at the very least a therapist here. If it quacks like a duck and walks like a duck then its most likely a duck! LOL
Either way. We understand that you can never admit to what I've just said, however we are very thankful and happy that you are here and are taking the time to view our concerns and reviews which may enable you to provide
Better services. TY

Great line
Years ago I ws told at mandalla by a massage woman that the 60 minute massage is really 45 minutes. I tipped her $ 30 instead of the $ 40 she quoted. She said : " U HUMMMM EXCUSED ME. You are $ 10 short." I replied that just like her 60 minute massage is really 45 minutes. That my $30 tip is REALLY $ 40. TOUCHE.
Great Line to end 2012 with!
I believe going into the New year I will do the simple math for a session, ie, if the house fee is $60 for an hour that is a dollar a minute. If I am off the table at the 40 minute mark, well. 40 mins x $1 / minute is a $40 house fee. Naturally that comes out of the tip as she has already taken the house fee. Of course I will leave with a smile and " More tip next time"
Never liked that place. Pricey and tip expectations for service were out of line.
Mandala would NOT make change for the house fee. I am not taking $ 100 bill. If they owe you $ 10 you should get it. For some reason I allowed many providers to walk all over me, double book sessions (when I was a reliable regular) , and answer phones every 10 minutes even when they has a receptionist. I finally saw a program on Television that was about sticking up for yourself. If I did nothing then I was saying : " Please victumize me! I am here for the sole purpose of you ripping me off. I am a sucker or patsy!"
I now tip fairly and I have reminded a few providers that their tip is in their hands not mine. I only react to the quality that I get.
If they get a $ 10 tip from me that is a signal that they need to take a hard look at themselves and their treatment of me.
I do not take "looks" or "age" into it as those are fixed items and out of the control of the provider.
When customer tip for poor service they hurt everyone.

Jolin
Was hoping someone could recommend a (biological) female at Jolin's. I'm really in need of a good Thai massage, not just a rub down. I'm looking for a good massage with stretching. Would obviously like to be satisfied with my experience upon leaving however the quality of the massage is more important for this visit. Was thinking about going to S'bai but the terrible attitudes and lack of efforts are keeping me from returning. A shame because they do have talent, just choose to get you in and out and grab their tip. Any info is appreciated and I can exchange info for an apt massage with trusted seniors.
Thanks in advance

Yezi
Visited recently. Was greeted by Summer, a 30 something woman, fairly attractive. But handed off to another woman who did the massage. She had near-zero English. Had real trouble telling me her name; sounded like Tel-a-for. Maybe Jennifer. She was older, less attractive. Massage was OK; nothing special. Fairly good tease but ending at jackhammer speed. Worked, though barely. Full hour and no interruptions. I think the turnover of providers is such that you can't count on anything.

Ninja
OK, don't care one way or the other, I totally agree with you. Some were questioning if owner / therapist was posting positive reviews and evidently had issues with that, may be a case of YMMV but in my case have enjoyed each and every visit and plan for many more!
So are you saying you don't tip for average service, only for superior service at restaurants & legit massages? If that's what you mean, and it sounds like it is, then think of it this way. The $60 house fee is just that, for the use of the house, facilities and whoever is there doing the laundry, cleaning, mamason etc. Not the person doing the massage. She may get a VERY small amount from the house fee, but not always. Granted if the service is poor then less of a tip is appropriate, but to leave nothing is absurd. In the case of restaurants, waiters & waitresses get paid minimum wage. Even if the service is poor, a tip of somekind should be given. If service was that bad send a note to management, but the person did work for you. I feel very strongly about this as I have worked for tips as a part time bartender (which, by the way is an excellent part time job. There is more "take out" than you could ever imagine). That's my rant for the day.
If their employers choose to pay them low wages its not my duty to tip more to compensate for that or be some kind of charity. If the minimum wage is too low we vote for different people and increase it high like california did. Also, I really doubt they are paying taxes on much of the tips income (some might, but rare I would think) so its already more than it seems. I do expect more for tips. If a bar tender just gets me a drink and moves on, then I am not going to tip, but if they remembered my, or the drink I get, or attempted to conversate more then that would warrant a tip. If a waitress just got me food and didn't see her again til check time, same deal. I am not saying do backflips but I expect something extra. If they do no more work than a mcdonalds cashier I tip that way LOL. Now there is the exception for investment tips where you risk it and give absurd tips to open the door toward preferential treatment of some kind and I agree with that as well, although its hard to determine what the amount should be. After saying all this if the waitress or bartender was really cute I admit I would probably tip more anyway LOL. Its bad but I doubt I'd be the only one.

I did realize that I was taking my frustration out on the owner and that wasn't right. So now I just speak up and I always carry a watch on me now so if the time is "shorted" I speak up and tell the massuese that I have " X "amount of time left and that I want the massage finished. Tip
20 tip for legit massage is pretty generous. I usually leave 10 tip. Sometimes 15 tip if the massage only cost 50 to begin with.

Mandala YMMV
Ok, I think most of you are right and Mandala is really hit or miss, or miss, or miss.
However, the most basic part of this whole Mongering adventure is what you make of it.
I am 46 and not in perfect shape but I still go to Mandala around 7 times a year when I am out there.
I never go without exact change and the hide my cash in different parts of my wallet, shoes etc.
I never call ahead. Only a couple times had less than 4 girls to pick from. I am giving myself away now.
I often sit in the reception room and chat up the girls trying to pick the best of the choice available.
You have to take the receptionist with a pound of salt. I joke with her that I want to decide and that she had better be one of the choices. I am not interested in who came to work first or who's turn it is for a customer.
I was there this week and saw three women I have had extras with. Tough choice as I like to be fair.
I whispered to Sandra that I would really like it if she popped in and joined me with Gina. I had not seen Gina before and I wanted the session to get more interesting.
So, Gina brings me to the room and I start right in by having her hang up my sweater and I got her to stay while I disrobed.
She caressed my back and put me on the table and doused me with oil. Good massage training.
About the time I relaxed and junior started getting stiff I flip and she accidentally presses her breast against him.
So it is throbing and I can see her nipples getting very hard. Of course this is where Sandra pops in, did not need her that day, and she vouches for me. She tells Gina I always take care of her very nicely.
Yes, this is Mandala. Sandra rubs Ginas ass and unbuttons her jeans and takes them off. Gina is still teasing Junior.
Sandra turns Gina around and shows me her Gina's panties and tugs them aside to show me what I want to lick.
Sandra begins Sucking me BBJ and showing Gina how it is achingly Red and needy. Gina rides my tounge and eventually joined in on the BBJ. Ok, Gina is now my favorite. She exploded at least 5 times on my face and tongue.
Sandra took a ride too and got on her knees then Gina surprised me by having me sit on the table and stoked me until I lost it. She sprayed it all over Sandras tits. Very talented hands, mouth, tongue, everything.
So, don't judge a place on how cheap or how great the perceived value is.
Ok, so $80 for the house. $100 for Gina and $100 for Sandra. So $280 for a full hour mind you, a double BBJ for close to 30 minutes and skillfull explosive release that went on a couple minutes after I was done. Would not have traded this experience for 2 less intense less involved therapist sessions.
Normally I would have spent Far less at Ge's place with much younger Portuguese women but they closed the location I liked.

Norwood area, Don
Work had me in the Norwood area.
Spa B has been long gone. Now it is a medical office.
The pizza place in that plaza is pretty good.
Went across the street to the asian nail studio. Was in need of massage for an aching back, anything else would be a bonus. Wasnt expecting "more".
This place is DIY at most.
This is a place where housewives, family's and teens go to get nails done.
There are some cute ladies working there.
Got an hour massage, It was very nice, almost teasing.
I left with my back feeling better but "spiritually frustrated" about the changing times in the AMP scene.
