New Haven Weighs Options To Curb Prostitution
NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- The chief of police in New Haven is considering special measures to curb prostitution in the city.
James Lewis said he is considering creative options to curb prostitution, including arresting the men who patronize prostitutes, buying advertising and printing the names and addresses of the johns.
The idea is getting mixed reviews.
Some people said it is an invasion of privacy. Others say people who patronizing prostitutes is a crime, so they approve.
Lewis said the idea has worked for him in other cities.

New Haven (WTNH) -- Twelve men were arrested in the Fair Haven section of New Haven on prostitution related charges, police said Friday. Their cars were also seized.
The men were arrested in a sting operation involving a female police officer on Chapel Street in the area around Ferry St. and Blatchley Ave.
Eleven men were arrested for patronizing a prostitute. They are: Joseph D of East Haven, Michael S of Branford, Segundo N of New Haven, Darryl W of Bridgeport, Jamie A of New Haven, Jose D of New Haven, Genaro P of New Haven, Mohammed F of Hamden, Miguel D of New Haven, Augusto C of New Haven, and Lucas P of New Haven.
Arrested for aiding and abetting was 21-year-old Victor R of New Haven.
Police also seized eight cars in the sting, including a Cadillac Escalade and a company home improvement truck.
Some in the neighborhood are happy to see police crack down on such activity.
"Once they arrest the guys it tells the girls that are really walking the streets you're going to run out of customers and then maybe then they can go out and do something better for themselves," Isiah Mirando said.
