While I've been a daily carrier for 25+, and would not dream of cruising the hood naked. John Law can't do / say jack. Even with a "pro" in the car. A firearm can be carried in a vehicle LOADED, as long as it is "securely encased" (glovebox / console or zippered case under a seat) without a CCW.

While it's nice to cite Fl. Statutes. A knowledgeable and TRAINED CCW holder (and florida doesn't require NEARLY ENOUGH TRAINING), knows when to hold 'them, and when to fold 'them.

Personally. Absent a weapon, I would prefer to hose someone down with the MilSpec Pepper spray I keep within reach. Lot's more fun, lot less lethal.

Too many people with CCW's have a "cavalier attitude", when armed. And wouldn't have a clue how to react in a "critical defense scenario". Hell. FBI statistics show a less than 10% hit rate in agent involved shootings. And they train even more than I do.

Mere exposure, in a threatening manner, could be considered "menacing".

When approached by someone I don't want to be approached by (typically in RaceTrac Gas Station, while pumping gas) - I tell them "whatever it is, not interested. Turn around and walk away" (with my hand up in a stop gesture). They get warned a 2nd time, verbally and hand signals if they continue to approach. The 3rd warning is the same. With my shirt pulled up and my hand visibly on my pistol. It's never gotten past stage III. And this is ALL ON CAMERA there.

The notion of some "20 foot rule" is BS. A perp, with a concealed knife or ther weapon. Can cover that 20', a lot faster than most (untrained) individuals can draw, aim and fire. So be ready to have a bead on them BEFORE they hit that 20' magic line.

I'll take the hassle of LEO during a "driving while white" traffic stop, for being legally armed (and I inform them as soon as they approach). I even had to show some rookies how to clear and lock open a 1911 one night. They appreciated the lesson.

Pull over. Open all your windows, turn your interior lights on, put both your hands on the window sill. So they can see into the vehicle and ascertain there are no threats to their safety. LEO appreciates this. They are not OUR ENEMY. They are just DOING THEIR JOB.
