I'd disagree a bit with your statement about 98% of the risk being with the provider. From what I've seen, Uncle LEO is an equal opportunity kinda guy, he'll gladly set up stings to bust the provider, bust the monger or both. I'd suggest it's a little bit easier to bust the provider, all they've got to do is respond to an ad and go from there. When busting the monger, they may well have to begin by creating their own ad, it just increases the amount of time and effort to some extent. If I had to guess, I'd say the busts are somewhere in the neighborhood of 60/40, with the 60 being as to the providers.

I'd suggest that your stated concern is one of the main reasons to be on sites like this, lots of info is available! If a provider has been reviewed a dozen times over the past few months, the monger can rest assured she's legit. If you come across an ad for a provider and can't find any reviews, then know that you're calling her up at your own risk.

As to burner phones, avoiding the uncle is only one reason to do so. For me, it's more about avoiding a different sort of bust, getting busted by the SO! Also, before I got a burner, one provider started blowing up my phone at all the wrong hours, another one did a Google search of the number and proceeded to tell me my real name and where I lived. Not cool.

Bottom line, if you're engaged in an activity that raises legal questions, you may well get popped at some point. Do you speed a lot? Smoke weed regularly? Might you get busted? One was a guy I did business with, it was before I was a monger. He got caught in a large sting where he lived. In POLK COUNTY. See how that location keeps coming up? A guy that I work with now was part of the Luv Shack bust some years ago. High profile guy, lost his position over the bust. Since then he has done pretty well.
