Actually I saw a documentary on the good old history channel. Seems the Chinese in there infinite wisdom decided thousands of years ago that woman would serve men. Smart these Chinese. Any way, the Chinese woman believe it is there responsibility to serve males. It is part of being a female. It is a marvelous cultural phenomenon. But it has been ingrained into the culture for so long that the Chinese woman understand this. I don't think they feel that it is a subjugation role but rather just a normal function of society.

The program was about the history of sex on the history channel. I found it quite illuminating, being a former fan of Victorian pornography, and Greek debauchery. I know a strange combination. But the program was good, and the correlation of why the Chinese seem to have AMP's all over makes a little more sense. Although I will not deny that the role of poverty and the encouragement of the government to have the female population immigrate are large contributing factors.

These girls seem to all have families, and go back to them, go to N. Y. and LA, and back to school. Go to a Chinese restaurant and find recent immigrants, they say almost the exact things about family and stuff. Just the family doesn't know that the girls are in AMP's.

The cultural predisposition to be subservient to men is not just a Chinese phenomenon. You'll find it in many if not most Asian cultures. I'm sure that much of this has to do with the fact that a good number of Asian cultures were at one time or another themselves subservient to Chinese influence. Take Vietnam as an example. They were occupied by and considered part of the Chinese empire for one thousand years. If you look at Korean language, you'll find many Chinese influences. So naturally many Asian cultures adopted aspects of Chinese traditions and behavior patterns.

If you look at other parts of Southeast Asia (e.g. Thailand, Laos, Cambodia), you'll see not only Chinese influence but Indian influences as well. India is also a culture in which women are expected to keep the men happy. The Indian culture has spread throughout Southeast Asia as can be seen in the writing and temple architecture of places such as Cambodia, Laos, and Cambodia, as well as the food of most of the countries in that region.

Tried to stop by today only to find the doors locked and no one anwsering them. Met an old timer in the parking lot, he told me that they had a immagration problem. Some of the girls were taken away. The owner told him that within a week they'll be up and running.

I went to the Green Ocean massage place on Joppa Rd today. The only person there was Julie so I had no choice of ladies. There are a number of ways. The first is to just call. Normally I can tell from the accent what country they are from. You can just drive to the place if you want and usually the number is on the bldg. Or it's always in the ad, if you see that. Another thing (if you're not good at figuring out accents) is to call and ask about a table shower or any kind of shower. I have run across Korean places that had no table shower. But the Korean places almost always have some kind of shower. That's because the Koreans (like the Japanese) are clean freaks.

Or if all else fails, you can call and ask what nationality they are. You don't have to be shy with these girls. I mean you're intending to go in there, get naked, and at a minimum get your rod polished. Shyness makes no sense at all in that environment.

But if it's a so-called "apartment AMP" you needn't bother with any of this, because there's a 99.99% chance it's Chinese. I've never run across a Korean apartment AMP. The reason for this (in my opinion) has generally to do with Korean culture. Koreans tend to be (once again) like the Japanese in that they are more group oriented. You will typically not find them going against their culture and striking out on their own. And the Korean AMP business model calls for them to work (if they do such work at all) in a store-front type of business with a mamasan (normally). Also, once you go in, if you get a chance to peer around, you'll notice that in a Korean AMP there is always a kitchen where they hang out. You'll see a Korean calendar on the wall somewhere.

I hope you can tell Korean script from Chinese. Korean script is typically more square looking than Chinese. That's because Korean characters are arranged in square groups or blocks. If you can't tell them apart, go online and google "Korean alphabet." They have an alphabet which is like ours in that each Korean character stands for a sound, and does not have meaning beyond that, like Chinese characters do. There are only 14 consonants and 10 vowels in Korean. There are tens of thousands of Chinese characters. Chinese characters are actually what are known as pictograms. They represent things. For instance the Chinese character for "man" actually looks like a man.

Having said all this, I have seen one or two Korean AMP's where there was no mamasan or where the mamasan worked as well. If you have a good sense of smell you'll smell garlic in a Korean AMP.

Another more subtle tip-off is what color is used in the sign if they have one. Chinese love red. They believe it is a lucky color. If you see red and yellow, it's probably Vietnamese. But you typically won't find any Vietnamese place outside of New York City, LA, or Honolulu.

By the way, I respect you for not wanting to be rude. Most Asians are very polite and I believe it is good to return this politeness to them. They do a job that no American women could or would do correctly and I for one value their contribution to our culture and economy. If you deal much with Koreans (whether in a shoe repair shop, alterations shop, AMP, or whatever) you will see this in small ways. For one thing, they will often bow when saying hello or goodbye. Also when handing you money or taking money from you, they will never do it with one hand. They will either hand it with both hands or more typically they will hand it with, say, the right hand and support their forearm with their other hand. It is considered rude in Korean culture to exchange money with one hand. To them it denotes an embarrassing quickness with regard to money. So when meeting or taking leave from a Korean, always bow, if ever so slightly. And give or take money with two hands if you can. It signals to them that the relationship is more important to you than the exchange of money. This will buy you a lot of good will in an AMP situation as it shows you respect the people there.

This is one of my favorite places, but of the six times that I have gone there, I was only able to receive service twice. That means on four separate occasions, they were closed! Julie gives a great massage but then again she was never distracted. Based upon how often they have been closed as of late, I suspect that she is overbooked or under staffed.

Nice report. The only thing I disagree with is the part about AAMPs. I think the reason you do not see more Korean ones has more to do with business than culture. For several reasons it is a less desirable business model than the store front type shop.

But if you look at the SF Bay Area, there are now hundreds of Korean AAMPs - an evolution caused by the July 2005 Black Thursday ICE/FBI raids (comparable to Black Wednesday 2006 on the East Coast) that did massive damage to regular store front type AMPs in the Bay Area. If you or others want some more info, feel free to PM me.

Other than that, as I said, nice job on discussing some of the Korean cultural aspects - why things are as they are.
