Major police action on Haines just above 62nd ave about noon. At least 6-7 cars and as many officers talking to 10 -12 young people male and female.

Thanks Po Po.[/QUOTE]I totally agree they deserve credit for this arrest, but they still have 106 unsolved homicides since 1971. If they placed more emphasis on these types of crimes, and less on chasing the homeless and workers, they'd likely close many more.

Keeping drugs, prostitution, and other street crime "under control" has a much greater value (actual $$$ value) than solving a minor homicide. A dead body is just a statistic after a few days, seeing prostitutes and drug deals every day alters the overall perception of an area including home values, business interests, tourism, etc. It's like working security at the mall: your purpose is to keep theft, vandalism, etc at a low enough level that nobody is bothered by it. An auto theft is worse than some teenager begging for change, but the begging teenager is more of a threat to the mall. I don't even hate them for having that mindset forced upon them; it's caused by the lazy, ignorant middle class and the entrenched idea that somehow legislation and incarceration can fix social problems.

Average guy can kill average guy without many people caring. If a celebrity dies, specific neighborhoods are involved, or certain combinations of race or religion are involved it becomes a "major" event.
I'm not saying it's right, I'm saying that's the reality of the situation. Ongoing crimes tend to be worse politically than relatively rare one time crimes. It's easy to say "protect and serve," until budget cuts take away your job.
