I've personally been using Google Voice since it's free and only requires you to have a Google account with a verified number. There are lots of free apps out there for this stuff, like Talkatone and TextNow. I recommend using one.

As for photos of cards, I just send the bookers a picture of my driver's license with my old address on it. If they ask for work info, I'll send them a picture of my employee badge.
