I always check the area before letting them know I have arrived and sometimes I'll even ask what the room number is OR what side their room is on before I let them know I'm there. (Even for regulars that move around from time to time).

To be honest I enjoy that part of the hobby being "undercover"(I'm a Night Time monger).
