One should consider, what was going on in this country when the term "Oriental" (and the Confederate flag) first became widely used in the late 1800's and early 1900's. In the case of "Orientals" it was a time of racial exclusion & discrimination (and for the confederate flag a time of lynchings and the rise of the KKK). When one hears the word "Oriental" it conjures the smell of incense and the sound of gongs because, at the time it was used In the USA, the stereotype of Asians was that of a people who were foreign and exotic, and apart from the US in way that went well beyond that of European immigrants. The term 'Oriental' has been used to reinforce the idea that Asians were / are forever foreign and could never become American. These ideas helped to justify immigration exclusion, racial discrimination and violence, political disfranchisement and segregation.
Bottom line, if you continue to use a term knowing it may be offensive to other people (and perhaps even harmful because of how it can reinforce prejudices existent in the body politic), particularly when there are just reasons why it can be considered offensive AND there are non-offensive alternatives available, the problem is with you.

Jap = Japanese, I meant that's where they are from. There is a Japanese dude who works in the local publix deli. If someone ask me who waited on me and I said the Jap guy, the majority of free thinking people would know that I was referring to the worker who is from Japan.
The liberal redefinition of racism to fit narrative just doesn't fly. If someone ask me who waited on me in the deli and I said the Japanese man ask what I needed but I told him I wanted a white person to take my order because I didn't want a Japanese person around my food would be an example of real racism which is based upon actions not words period.

My own country count for "tapping one of the locals" is 16 (out of 40 countries I've visited). Considering there are about 200 countries in the world, I never realistically hope to get all of them.
The thought of tapping a sex worker in Africa, with all its HIV is just too scary to consider (though I did once do one in Haiti way back in the 80's which in retrospect was completely insane). The closest I came in Africa was in Durban South Africa (which, BTW, also happens to have a sizable Indian population) when I stopped to check out a strip club but did not partake.
When it comes to India (and most Muslim countries too for that matter), the problem is their conservative culture. The marketplace for sex in those countries just isn't the same. The appeal just isn't there (for me at least other than to be able to check off another country on my list). That's not at all to say P4P is non-existent in those countries. Far from it. For example, try Googling "GB Road in New Delhi" which reportedly has the highest concentration of brothels of any red-light district in the world. Then look at the pictures of some of the women working there and read the reports. Raving beauties they are not. And, to illustrate the conservatism, many don't even fully uncloth when they have sex with you (which may be just as well). The best that can be said is that at least they're dirt cheap.
Of course there are many truly gorgeous Indian women, but those aren't the ones you'll find at those places (actually many of those are brought in from Nepal). The better looking ones (including even some Bollywood actressses) can be had through various escort services and other venues, but you'll have to pay much bigger bucks for the experience.
TBH, I haven't yet been to India myself, but my experience in Dubai (and also S Africa) checking out escort services was similar to the reports I've read on India. Many gorgeous women available (in Dubai alone probably from all 200 countries other than the UAE itself) IF you can believe the pics, BUT at sticker shock prices. IMHO, why pay as much (or perhaps even more) for an experience that is no better (or perhaps not even as good) than what we can get locally (other than just the novelty aspect of it)?

Always found use the word "Oriental" peculiar in the context of ethnicity or area of origin. Wondered of Asians referred to us as "Occidentals". I'm of Italian descent. Never had an issue with referring to a particular wine as "dago red" or the scores of jokes targeting Italians. I thought they were hilarious and tell Giovanni and Pasquale jokes myself to this day (We used to tell them with 10 of us around the dinner table at my Grandfather's). And of course commercials such as "Mumma Mia! That's a spicy meatBALL!".
Which brings me to the question "What do you think is the ethnicity of the people who own this St. Petersburg market?
Key is just to be sensitive to your audience and not to offend. Simple common courtesy and it might keep you from getting your ass kicked or worse.

Now perhaps I can insert some levity into the topic. In the John Wayne classic True Grit, Roster Cogburn lived with a Chinese dude Chen Lee and a cat. What was the cats name? BTW Clint Eastwood westerns are hands down better. Let's debate that topic?

As for your new topic, the cat's name was General Sterling Price (incredibly obscure piece of trivia) and I definitely agree with you Clint Eastwood westerns beat any John Wayne western hands down (not withstanding movies like The Searchers, True Grit for which he won his one and only Oscar? or Rio Bravo). Frankly, I think John Wayne is greatly over-rated as an actor in general. Meanwhile Clint Eastwood excels both as an actor AND a director from his earliest Segio Leone spaghetti westerns (back in the golden era for westerns) to his more recent efforts such as Unforgiven for which he won Oscars for both Best Actor & Director (and my all-time favorite western) and who can forget his non-westerns Million Dollar Baby and Gran Torino.
Honorable mentions should go to Gary Cooper for High Noon, Alan Ladd for Shane, the Magnificent 7 (the original not the remake), 3:10 to Yuma (the remake not the original), the Treasure of Sierra Madre (just because I'm a big Bogey fan) and Dances with Wolves (even though I'm not a huge fan of Kevin Costner that western did revive the genre).
