The focus by LEO on prostitution has reached an absurd level.

If you've ever watched FOX 13 News, you've probably seen their "MidSouth's Most Wanted" feature. This past Wed.'s featured 6 profiles. And you guessed it, ALL 6 of the "most" wanted criminals in the entire mid-south area were ALL prostitutes. The word "most" implies the criminals listed should be the most offensive to society: murder, aggravated robbery, etc. But not in Memphis. The unaninomous vote by LEO is prostitutes are the worst detriment to society. No more guessing LEO's priority for crimes of prostitution: "MOST" wanted.

They even listed all 6 in a politically correct fashion: 3 were white, 3 were black; listed in alternating race: black, white, black, white, etc.

WTF is driving their obsession? Easy busts with lower chance of guns fired back at them, the publicity of recent NY governor Spitzer? WTF?

May is sweeps month, meaning that broadcasters use this month's ratings, along with the sweeps in Feb and Nov, to set advertising rates for the next year. And nothing says ratings like hookers in short skirts. Who would you rather see...some low life drug dealer or a nice looking hooker than the public can look down their nose at? Its really quite simple.

I come to Memphis several times a year and I can't believe that the LE would waste money on picking up working girls, streetwalkers, Craiglisters, or any others with the crime rate they have.

Maybe some one should write a letter to the editor and mention it. I know it won't really do anything, but maybe it will start a discussing and people will begin to look at the elected officials who are wasting the tax dollars.

SL[/QUOTE]Have to agree with SL. May is also Memphis' heavy tourism month with all the out of towner's here for MIM. Things should cool off once this month passes by. In the mean time the media does anything for a story that will get public notice.

Aside from the corrupt local government, this area has an extremely large bible-thumper influence that would much rather see the sinful short skirts removed from their precious landmark locations (Lamar, EP, Summer) than tackle the real crimes (homicides, car-jackings, home invasions, etc...).

I recall a few years back when the adult novelty shop Crystals was expanding to G-town Pkwy in Cordova. For several weeks the bible-thumpers actually had kids around the age of 10 carrying protest signs in front of the store. I was floored that they would exploit their own children for such selfish means.
