You have to remember it "has" been 17 years since 9/11, and so the younger generation is not as aware as those of us who lived it.

Plus, since the all volunteer military has been in force since 1973, many folks have never known anyone who served / serves in the military. It's refreshing to see folks like Swags pay homage to their family members who did serve.

I'm torn whether we should bring back the Draft?

On one hand, somebody has to take out the trash, and if there are people who "volunteer" to do it, why "assign" others to do it?

During Vietnam, the great majority of those who served were drafted, and so they did one tour of duty, and were done. These guys today are doing 3, 4, 5+ tours in a career between Iraq, Afghanistan, and anywhere else they are sent. And we wonder why we have so many afflicted with PTSD?

I just wonder if we're asking too much of our military these days, and (if we're going to continue these multiple, long-term conflicts) whether it's time to get every mother's son involved once again?
