I'm in town for a few days and read the forum to see suggestions for who I might want to see. I found Gia below and she has good reviews so I picked her from a handful of choices.

Yes, I think it's standard practice to ask your name and then call the room. Although, I have done business strictly over cell phone and no call to the room was necessary. So, I guess it goes both ways depending on the provider.

All I picture is someone charging up a storm to my room bill, often, all they verify is the name & room number. As long as they match, the bartender or waiter are quick to put through.
