That doesn't mean it is something I'd want to happen for either of our sakes. It sounds like a hell of a lot of drama to resort to violence, but I was not going to back down.

We can all say what we would have done, but you have to remember you aren't dealing with anyone that thinks like you do. They are just looking for a fix and so long as you leave enough for them to do that, it can de-escalate. Same reason you should leave a little cash in an obvious hiding place in your kitchen. You want any junkie breaking in to find something and get the fuck out.

These aren't problems I run into, since I avoid the fuck out of any well-known junkie. It can only go bad.
