I finally got to check that one off my bucket list during my recent photo safari back to Africa. Rhinos have been poached to near extension by Asians who have never heard of Viagra. There were a small herd of wild rhinos in the African Nation I was visiting and I managed to bribe a guide into taking me there after using some connections of mine to convince the guide that I wasn't connected to poachers. He took me to a remote area where I first encountered eight men carrying AK-47's whose job was to protect the rhinos with orders to shoot to kill any poacher or anyone they thought was a poacher. No questions would be asked. These were eight mean looking fuckers. After my guide spoke to them in some Bantu language they let us continue but they followed us as a safe distance. About ten minutes later while hiking in the Bush, I came face to face with this rhino. I have been mock charged by a lion and mock charged by a bull elephant, but rhinos don't mock charge. They charge first and ask questions later. Right now I am standing ten feet from a rhino and there is nothing between him and me but thin air. If the rhino charges, my ass is grass because both the rhino and my guide can outrun me! After the rhino stops grazing and snorts a me, my guide grabs me from behind and says we need to walk slowly out of here. That I do but only after taking several photos. When we get back to the guards, they are laughing and shaking their heads at this crazy American. Nevertheless, they all gave me an African high five for bravery and stupidity. So I have marked that one off my bucket list. But I still have lots left on my bucket list. What about that mother-daughter photo shoot?
