I am trying to be vague, not My neighborhood or neighbor, just somewhere I parked and hightailed it out of Dodge when they started yelling from behind my car.
License plates are easily tracked. In fact, they are searchable as news orgs do harvest them on occassion. I've done my own searches by license plates and paid around $40 for two months of access.
The info is available to the bored and idle, but not free.

I've never read anything about LE using license plates for this purpose. However, its local jurisdiction. In the case of nuisance complaints, who knows. You just have to be careful and exercise caution when extricating.
Neighborhood watches will often take note of license plate numbers for LE to follow up on if something goes down.

Don't worry about the plate search. At best Your digits will be recorded as a suspicious vehicle in the area.That would really only happen if someone, a neighbor, called You in. Unless a "crime" occurs they will not be followed up on.
