She has found a legit job, she seems to have found a guy that she likes and trust (yes you Carlos) , and she is trying to get into the swing of relating with positive people / family (which she may not have had). Carlos I think that you may feel that you do not want to be with her (A) because you do not have love or that feeling of love for her or (B) you do not want her to be around you and your family because of her past. Your fear that explaining her past would be awkward. One other thing to consider is if you go to the reunion, how many guys may have slept with her. Awkward situation.
If you like her, give her a chance (you obviously did to help her with her tooth). I would not take her to a family reunion at this time in a new and budding relationship. Instead on the day / weekend of the reunion, tell her that you want to take her out of town to the beach for a special weekend together. She would enjoy going away with you more than the reunion. Take her to Ocean City, Md. It is not that far away and there is enough bars and things to do to keep both of you interested. If you guys do not have any chemistry together it will show over the course of the weekend and your problem will be solved. Good luck.

Its so nice to see that you guys are doing your best to make Carlos start a relationship. LMAO.
To me it seems that Carlos just treats her as a good friend. And its not his intention to take it to next level. He wants our advice how to stop her and how to tell her he is not ready for a relationship, in a congenial manner and not to break her heart. If he takes her to Ocean city, it might give totally wrong message to her. IMO, Carlos must send an SOS to her that he is busy (may be get gets sick, may be he has to go out of town for work, may be a friend came from out of state and he has to attend him, may be his car is in workshop, may be he lost his phone at the evening of the reunion and later found it under his car seat, may be a relative got sick and family reunion got cancelled, may be an uncle died in a far off state and he has to fly to attend funeral and to claim some money) and can't attend reunion.
