To reach herd immunity health experts say you need 70% of the population to get and recover from the virus. The population of the USA is 328 million people. That's 229,600,000 that need to become infected and recover before we reach herd immunity. At 1. 6% rate of death we have experienced to date that's 3,673,600 people that will die to get there. We added about 180 k new cases yesterday according to the CDC. In order for us to reach herd immunity at this rate it will take roughly 1130 days or another 3. 1 years to get there. This is taking into account the 25 million that have already been infected. We are not on our way to herd immunity.

Rates you have mentioned are only valid if all things are equal. What I said was very straight forward. Quarantine all older people and let the rest of us get it. You offer up this solution of just quarantining old people as if it were easy. If it's so easy how come it hasn't been done? How come a year after this pandemic has started only half-assed, uncoordinated attempts have been made to get this virus under control?

If you want to offer up a counter argument it's your turn to crunch some numbers, otherwise you are just talking out of your ass. The majority of deaths are old people, that doesn't negate the percentage of young people or middle aged people that die or are hospitalised from this virus. As I said before, when you're dealing with millions of cases things add up. People will still be hospitalised and people will still be dying.

I don't know why you think the rate of infection would increase dramatically in your scenario. People are basically doing what they want to right now, there are no stay at home orders. I read that this outbreak has possibly peaked, the rate of people being infected is likely to start slowing down.

Yes the vaccine will speed things up. There is still the question of if enough people are willing to get it and how effectively it is rolled out. There's one guy that commented earlier that said the vaccine is worse than the virus. How many share his sentiment and won't get vaccinated? Only something like 60% of people polled said they are willing to be vaccinated. That will make a huge impact once they are but it is not enough for herd immunity according to health experts.

Another note on herd immunity. It does not eradicate the virus. It just protects people who are more vulnerable. The virus will still be out there and vulnerable populations will still get it. When you start reintroducing old people to society, what happens then? The vaccine isn't 100% effective and the amount of people willing to get vaccinated is not ideal.

This is starting to get too hypothetical and I'm pretty hopeful that things are about to get a lot better with the vaccine. We still need to take this seriously in the meantime however. We've known from almost the beginning that having a preexisting condition can turn covid into a lethal illness. As you point out being overweight is one of those conditions. The CDC reports that 42.5% of adults over 20 are obese, 73.6% are overweight. Hypertension is also on your list, which also comes with being overweight / obese, also a common problem among Americans. Diabetes is also on that list which CDC reports 10.5% of the US population has and generally comes with being overweight and having high blood pressure. The fact is, Americans as a whole are not exactly the most healthy of people, which is why we are now losing around 2-4 k people a day due to covid.

First of all, so what? Are you trying to say their lives are less valuable because they are over 55? The average life expectancy in the USA is something like 75 years. I don't really understand this argument. I see people indirectly reference their age on this board quite frequently, often mentioning how they've been "in this game" for 20,30, 40 years. That probably puts a lot of people on this board in the 50+ older category assuming they started mongering sometime in their 20's. And even if they're younger, this is a contagious disease we're talking about. It's not just you at risk, it's everyone who you may interact with in your day to day lives should you catch this.

Right now, according to covidactnow, there is only one state in the USA that is using less than 50% of its ICU capacity. About half of them are at greater than 70%. Before the pandemic hit you did not see ICUs filled to this capacity.

If you want to start talking of people dying worldwide due to starvation, first of all. That's 10 mil people theoretically dying of starvation IF governments don't offer aid. To date, worldwide, there has been just over 2 million deaths due to covid. That number is not theoretical, and it is likely much higher unless you believe all those 2nd and 3rd world countries actually have the capability of tracking deaths due to covid.

Diabetes is also on that list which CDC reports 10.5% of the US population has and generally comes with being overweight and having high blood pressure. The fact is, Americans as a whole are not exactly the most healthy of people, which is why we are now losing around 2-4 k people a day due to covid.

Your chance of contracting HIV is around ".04" percent and the likelihood you would die from it is extremely low given the treatments available today.

That said, I don't know of anyone who could actually back his stories up. When he privately gave me digits of guaranteed UTR providers none of them ever answered even after he supposedly told them I was cool. Even if he was actually having success and not telling tall tales, he never seemed to share it. With all his Asian cobbler stories he would have been having more sex than Wilt Chamberlain all while paying for it too, so I just think he was a keyboard warrior. Hopefully mom gives him plenty of Hot Pockets to eat in the basement.

His posts were never informative, he always claimed to know everything, and he thought everything was so "funny". His presence was odd to say the least. I PM'd him once to ask about a private provider that he mentioned. He surprisingly offered to send the number. But I had to message him a few times afterwards for him to send the info. The number was fake or simply not the same anymore. I told him in a very respectful way thinking it was a typo. He replied in a bizarre way and claimed the girl was begging for him to come over now and a bunch of nonsense. Saying stuff like "poor me. All the women want me". I'm like. This guy is crazy and / or completely full of shit. I appreciate the senior members and A2 getting involved.
