I heard the Stardust is scheduled for implosion also?
I know the Boyd group is doing a major billion dollar project on the stardust property soon. I was suppose to have happened already but they pushed it off a little. I don't know when they've reschedule it, but it should be coming up soon.
it won't be long (few more years) before all the strip hotel rooms will be 200 + as the daily rate.
I see on the L.A. news here in New Mexico (?) that the Boardwalk hit the ground today.
They said that it was the 12th one and 10 more were in the books for the future.
10 more... It's all going away... just like it was a dream.
I guess soon the town will be nothing but celebrity wanna bees and their heros schmoozin the "To die for" scene hoping everyone sees them.
Oh well... it used to be such a nice quaint little town.
I Still Have My Ringmaster Club Card
I remember back in the day when Circus Circus was the newest hot spot in town. For some of you I'm sure it's the Flamingo.
Times are changing.
Jay Sarno's brain child. You paid $20 a year for the privilege of having a reserved section near the Pony Bar, line pass privilges, and other promotional discounts similar to today's slot club cards.
I was at the Flamingo opening too but security wouldn't let me in. Strictly black tie. Those were the days before J. C. Penney's (6th and Fremont) had a tux rental department.
Stardust is closing January 1st. New Frontier is on the demo list too. Will be a Swiss village theme with a big Ferris wheel like the one in London. Rufkin is stalling hoping to pick up a lot of the Stardust business while they rebuild.

Norman,
This was truly a very cool report, thank you! You are absolutely on the mark concerning the relationship between service/attitude/looks and price, but the kids don't know yet!
I will be in LV this coming weekend with a friend of mine, riding our MC's to town.
Maybe we see you on Fleamont and you can provide advice on where to connect with the $20 BBBJCIM ladies. I always want to learn!
See ya!
Warning: not an entertaining post, do not read for a good time
Not the kind of thing folks will look forward to hearing about, but there are definitely things that bug me more than too much law enforcement. Such as not enough, when predatory slave-dealing creeps don't stay locked in their cages where they belong:
BODIES FOUND IN DESERT: Three charged in two deaths
One man may have been pimping victim
Henderson police have charged three men in connection with the slayings of two women whose bodies were found May 20 in a desert area of Henderson.
Police charged Domonic Ronaldo Malone, 26; Donald Jay Herb, 29; and Jason D. McCarty, 35, with numerous felony counts, including murder with a deadly weapon, kidnapping and conspiracy to commit murder.
"The detectives have gathered a substantial amount of evidence that has amounted to probable cause for these arrests," said Henderson Police Department spokesman Todd Rasmussen.
Although police wouldn't comment on a motive for the slayings, a source familiar with the case said that at least one of the suspects was prostituting one of the victims and that both victims were killed over "a money issue."
<SNIP>
All three suspects have extensive criminal backgrounds, records show.
In March 2001, Malone was arrested on charges of cocaine possession. He told North Las Vegas police at the time that he was an ex-felon for battery with intent to commit a crime.
Herb was scheduled to serve time in the Clark County Detention Center this weekend for failing to finish a drug treatment program he was assigned to after arrests on drug possession charges in 2004 and 2005.

McCarty also has a history of drug charges. And in the early 1990s, he was charged with taking a vehicle without consent, being in possession of a stolen vehicle and being in possession of a controlled substance.

Police: Slaying suspect had threatened women
Friend of two victims told of beatings, demands for prostitution money
A few days before Victoria [Deleted] and Charlotte [Deleted] were found slain in the desert in Henderson, one of the men arrested in connection with their deaths had threatened to kill and bury them in the sand if they didn't make money for him, according to Henderson police reports.
Domonic "D-Roc" Malone, 26, had driven [Name], [Name] and a third woman to the Hard Rock Hotel and dropped them off there, ordering them to prostitute themselves, Henderson police wrote in Malone's arrest report.
"D-Roc then told the girls that if they didn't make him any money, there were going to be three shallow graves in the desert in the morning," according to the police report.
On the morning of May 20, a man found the naked bodies of the two women while he was walking his dog in the Henderson desert south of the Wagonwheel Drive exit off U.S. Highway 95.
<SNIP>
The third woman who had been dropped off at the Hard Rock with the victims told police she had been threatened and beaten multiple times by Malone.
She told police she had gotten into a car with the three suspects and the two victims on May 16 and 17 at the Sahara hotel and casino, police said. She knew the victims and Malone from the Sportsman's Royal Pub, 5600 Boulder Highway at Tropicana Avenue, according to the police report.
She told police Malone began to punch her head during the drive and she blacked out at one point. She said she was driven to a construction site in the desert where Malone beat her some more.

For All Of You Gun Shy Tourists:
HIZ HONOR SPEAKS THE TRUTH:
IT'S LEGAL IN NEVADA / or at least it's consciously disregarded
I GLEANED THIS TIDBIT FROM THE RENO GAZETTE JOURNAL:
For all his ethical challenges, Goodman said he recently spoke to a gathering of new mayors at the Kennedy School of Government about ethics: "With all my ethics problems, I lectured all the new mayors on how not to get indicted," he said. Adding: "Ethics and morals are two different things. No one ever accused me of being immoral."
Goodman had some interesting reactions to a story in the Las Vegas Sun about Sheriff Bill Young's decision not to seek re-election. In the article, Young lamented the turn of the strip from solely gambling to a bevy of licentious vices that prove a challenge to law enforcement, namely the proliferation of prostitution, strips clubs and drugs. Ironically, Las Vegas has enjoyed huge economic success by marketing itself as such. Goodman blamed law enforcement for the prostitution problem, likening it to immigration:
"Nobody has clean hands. Law enforcement for years has turned a blind eye to the reality of prostitution taking place in Las Vegas. Instead of having intellectual conversations of how to address it, they just have a conscious disregard for it. It's like immigration. We have laws on the books and there's almost a reliance on the part of those folks that come over here that nothing is going to happen to them."
I thought it quite chivilrous that NO LOCAL JOURNALIST picked up on the Mayor blaming Metro for turning a blind eye on prostitution. I guess they don't dare bite their handler's hand.
ALL BETS ARE OFF ON THE TROPICANNA SWEEP.
Hope this helps, Stormin
my friends & neighbors may not appreciate hearing it, but...
What an utter crock of Shiite.
The latest random delerious ravings of Oscar Goodman in public have absolutely no relevance at all to anything which occurs at Metro or anywhere else. He has no personal authority to manage any part of Las Vegas city government, Metro is not even a city governmant agency, and the overwhelming majority of the geography he and we refer to is not in the City at all. He is in his meaningless ceremonial office becuase the predominately illiterate residents of Las Vegas find his alchoholic circus clown act amusing, and because he always does exactly what he is told by anyone in a position to do him some good, including his pals who have repeatedly beat dozens of guys senseless who simply had the misfortune of walking into one of their clip joints, to squeeze a few extra dollars or in some cases just because they felt like it and it's Thursday. Many are dead, others are crippled, at least one is on a feeding tube for the rest of his life, after they encountered Mr. Goodman's pals when going out on the town for a lap dance. Not an opinion, the stomach turning facts are in evidence in Federal court. After becoming very wealthy with his minor cut of the procedes of decades of pimping, torture, rape, and murder, the mayor is now in the advanced stages of alchoholic dementia, and nobody with any real authority or serious influence has any reason to care what noise comes out when his lips move. It is highly ulikely that he can recall what he said 15 minutes ago, and he will likely say something contradicting it 15 minutes from now. A broken clock is right twice a day, a chimpanzee with a piano will occasionally hit a chord, and once and a while a noise which is kinda sorta partly related to something almost true will be heard in between swigs of hizzoner's gin. The only reason he ever gets quoted at all, besides some still thinking his act is cute, is becuase many journalists, especially in the electronic media, as well as residents, have no clue as to the actual structure of local governement or even where the City of Las Vegas really is and isn't located. They majored in journalism and communications at Enormous State University to avoid doing any math or serious reading.
The former Sheriff cashed out for a position at Wynn Resorts, the current Sheriff has announced he is taking his golden parachute at Station Casinos, the next incoming Sheriff will be taken care of in similar fashion, Metro responds exclusively to the wishes of casino and union bosses, and Oscar Goodman is rather less important than a valet parking lot attendant to all of them, and is likely to have quite a bit less cogent understanding of anything occuring in southern Nevada than the aforementioned parking attendant.
It would be perfectly appropriate to pay less attention to him than any other low life violent psycho pimp.
But all that aside, it is always good to hear from YOU, Norman.
Rant over, have a nice day. And welcome to Las Vegas, Ronster from the Big Easy.
