With respect to Clingers, I sure have experienced a lot of that behavior during these recessionary times. I like when a provider I see regularly who lives out of town lets me know when she is going to be in town or simply says hello every so often. But, I don't like getting calls and / or texts every single day from a provider, asking me what I am doing or whether I want to come see her today. I like to help others in need when I can, but if you help once, you can expect that the calls and texts will only increase. In that vein, here are a few helpful tips:

1. Don't loan money to providers, even when you "know" them well, unless you don't expect to be paid back. In this sense, providers are not much different from anyone else with respect to repaying borrowed money, but they will sometimes attempt to persuade you with offers of credit for future sessions. Personally, I have a great number of "free" sessions coming to me for which I will never collect. As my father taught me, don't loan money to people. If you want to give it to them, do so. Otherwise, you are just going to get angry when they do not pay you back. It's good to remind yourself of this rule, repeatedly, as you can develop some affection for providers. I am guilty of disobeying this rule, myself, to my detriment. I'm not saying that you cannot develop a real relationship with a provider, but I am saying that in most cases, you are just a wallet and nothing more.

2. If you are going to hobby, get a hobby phone. Burners are cheap and mostly untraceable. You don't want providers calling your "real" cell phone at an inopportune time, regardless of whether you have a significant other. Your real cell phone can often be traced back to your real identity, and you probably don't want that to happen. On my hobby phone, I've gotten calls and texts from angry husbands and boyfriends of providers, threatening my life and just generally yelling at me. Once your real phone number is out there, your real identity, place of employment, residential address and who knows what else, may be out there, too.
