I've noticed a number of posts lately about Uncle Leo in general and possible sting operations in particular. I'm wondering if the police maintain radio silence when conducting sting operations or if not, if it would be worthwhile for a monger to invest in a portable scanner to monitor police communications. Would that be a good way to be alerted to police activity in stroll areas or would it just get lost in the clutter of everything else they would be talking about? I've never had a police scanner so I have no idea. Anybody have any experience in this area?
I think it would be too difficult for a metropolitan police dept to do radio silence. Just by the shear number of people who call in to report accidents, domestic disputes, robberies, burglar alarm calls, traffic and etc. Police are always calling in to their dispatch for license plate numbers, drivers license numbers and everything else. Now that is not to say a few officers can use their cell phones and do a sting.That is a form of radio silence.
When it comes to radio silence what is more important? Getting some SW's off the street and bust a couple of mongers.Both will be out of jail in less than 24 hours because of overcrowding in the jails. Or is it more important to dispatch an officer to a domestic dispute or to run a license plate, or drivers license plate of someone who has been stoped in traffic who could be a wanted felon. Who do you want the police after? You a monger who is committing a misdemeanor crime or a felon?
I think radio silence is from tv and movies.I am not saying it is not done but it does happen. I can see if police are about to bust a door down they do not want some loud voice cooming over a radio. Bt for those situations I think they use ear sets and head mics to be hear.

I was on the South Side last night around midnite. Hooked up with Jay and then did some cruising. Couldn't find anyone.
Saw something weird. I'm going north on Michigan @ Holly Hills. Next block up, a car coming west turns south onto Michigan. We cross @ Holly Hills and it looks like 3 white guys in a 4-door car. They turn east on Holly Hills. I get to the street they just turned off of and look down towards Minnesota (I think.) I see what I believe is a SW walking north on Minn. So I go up a block and turn right, then right again on Minn to come up on the gal. White girl, blonde hair, slighly heavy...talking on a cell phone. Doesn't give me a look so I keep driving. Then about a block ahead, I see that 4-door car park on Minn and cut it's lights.
Not sure what if anything was going on.
As I have read in past reports many of the mongerers have talked about Mel. She is the SW with the white coat, short dark hair with a blond streak in it usually walking on grand in the southside. I read in the newspaper today she died. She was struck by a jeep on highway 55 Thursday night heading back to cape girardieau where she was from. Thats a shame. R. I. P.
Hey 'Buck I see that you've had a few dates with Jay. I had a really nice car date this last fall with her. I used to see her around Grand & Meramec during the day, but I haven't seen her out since like October. It sounds like you have had better luck than me finding her. I was wondering if you had any digits and her permission to forward. If so, I would appreciate it, if not I understand.

I saw a white sw on 1/17 near the Conocco on South Grand at about noon. She was 20ish, red short hair, a trim figure and appeared attractive as I drove by. Wish I could of stopped, but I was already late for an appointment. She was definetly a working girl. Anyone who could possibly give a name for this girl would be appreciated so I can search for reviews.

How did you know it was her while reading the paper? You knew her real name? Doubt they reported the story in the paper using the name Mel. Please let us know. She seemed to be a nice person. If the story is accurate I sincerely second the RIP.

Posted a review of her about two weeks back. Initially, the site didn't grab the review and I'm not sure if it went through.
I didn't have a great experience with her that night, but the details I can recall are here; if others can add, please do.
She said she was 31. Was from the southern part of Missouri, but had a kid in the hospital for cancer treatment in Memphis. (St. Jude's? ) Lived near the Wedge bar on a side street, cut off by the highway. Unfortunately, she had roommates/visitors, which spooked me to no end when visiting with her. And when breaking one of the 22 laws of mongering, which I usually follow to the letter.
She seemed to be on a drug buy when I dropped her off and had a worrisome tone; indicated that she'd been run-in for SW work before and had a shrill "don't roll that stop! " vibe when in the car.
Damn. While I'm sorry to hear this on a couple levels. Inc. A girl with cancer being without a mom; assuming that that's all true. I was so weirded out by that visit that I took some weeks off since then. Just checked in tonight to catch up.

UPDATE, 6:41 a.m.
The Missouri Highway Patrol has identified the woman struck and killed along Interstate 55 Thursday night as Melena Broglin, 31, of Cape Girardeau, Mo.
About 9:20 p.m. Thursday, Broglin apparently ran into the path of a northbound Jeep on I-55. The driver of the Jeep, a 47-year-old man from Green Park, Mo., couldn't avoid her in time and struck Broglin. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
For about two hours, the interstate was closed at the crash site. The area in south St. Louis County was near Meramec Bottom Road.
The patrol's report doesn't say why Broglin was a pedestrian or why she ran into traffic.

[/QUOTE] Thing is, it wouldn't be too difficult for the 3-5 officers involved in a vice sting to maintain radio silence. In fact, I'd suspect they do, up until a bust. After the bust they might want to run an ID check, but while the decoy is out and about, I'd think they'd be too busy watching her.

Observer314, thanks for your very good question. The Highway Patrol said Broglin may have been trying to cross the highway, near Meramec Bottom Road, because of a problem with her car.
