I was at C-Mowes earlier in the week and there were 6 girls working during the day. It is possible that a few were out on Friday for the funeral of Nikki's boyfriend who was shot earlier in the week in WP. I was told the story by one of the dancers and I believe this is the news story.

WASHINGTON PARK - The fatal shooting of an Alton native outside a Washington Park liquor store is being investigated as a homicide, authorities said Wednesday.

The victim of Monday night's shooting was identified as David C. Wilkins, 39, of Belleville.

Officials with the St. Clair County Coroner's Office said Wilkins was pronounced dead at 9:02 p.m. Monday at Kenneth Hall Regional Hospital in East St. Louis. They said Wilkins' death resulted from a single bullet wound to the upper right shoulder area.

Master Sgt. Jim Morrisey of the Illinois State Police said Wilkins was shot on the parking lot of the Quick Stop Liquor Store in Washington Park about 8 p.m. Monday.

Wilkins' sister, Christy Wilkins of Wood River, said her brother had been trying to protect his girlfriend when he was fatally shot. She said the victim had picked up his girlfriend from her job in Washington Park, and they had gone to the liquor store.

"Four guys approached the car, soliciting him to buy crack, and he refused," Christy Wilkins said. "They pursued it further, so he jumped out of the car, trying to protect his (42-year-old) girlfriend and her (31-year-old) niece, and a fight ensued."

Christy Wilkins said one of the assailants had a gun and dropped it. She said her brother and the attacker both reached for the gun, with the suspect grabbing it first and shooting the victim.

"My brother got back in the car and drove out of the lot, but then he started fading out," she said. "His girlfriend drove from the passenger's side back to (her place of employment), where she called 911."

Morrisey said police found David Wilkins collapsed in his car. He was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead about an hour later.

Man gets 15 years for plot to kill girlfrilend

EAST ST. LOUIS — A man from High Ridge who admitted plotting to kill and cut up his girlfriend was sentenced Friday to 15 years in federal prison.

Christopher A. H**********, 36, who owned the Washington Park Pawn Shop, tried to enlist a part-time employee to kill the woman, whom prosecutors described as his mistress, officials said. She was not harmed.

H********** was mad at the woman, with whom he had an intimate relationship for six years, because she had called his wife from work at a Washington Park strip club, "Dollie's."

H********** pleaded guilty in January in U.S. District Court in East St. Louis of destruction of evidence and use of a telephone with the intent that murder be committed. In exchange, prosecutors recommended the 15-year term.

Prosecutors said that in December 2006, he offered the employee $600 for the job. The next month, he became more insistent, even giving his employee directions to the girlfriend's south St. Louis County apartment and a key to her vehicle.

The employee was supposed to bring proof that the job was done — the victim's hand, purse, keys, cell phone and jewelry. He also was supposed to cut up her tattoos, including one that read "Dr. Loan," which was H**********'s nickname.

Instead, the employee went to the FBI on March 1, 2007. H********** was caught on tape discussing the plot, and agents enlisted the girlfriend's cooperation on March 5, the day she was supposed to be killed.

The employee returned to the pawnshop in Washington Park the next day with her purse and other personal items, and H********** paid him $200. He promised the rest when he got the woman's hand.

H********** was arrested as he burned his girlfriend's purse behind his shop.

Both wife and girlfriend were at the sentencing hearing Friday, where H********** also was fined $10,000 and sentenced to three years on supervised release after he gets out of prison.
