And since you are saying that in Asia they don't expect tip either, I feel like only in the US you are supposed to tip, depending on the kind of service.

This whole tip thing started because, and it's actually still the case in some states but not in california, the minimum wage in restauration jobs is far lower than the regular minimum wage, so they need tips to compensate for the money they don't get, but should, from their employers. Actually where I'm from you do give a tip, but it's basically just rounding up whatever amount you owe, to avoid exchanging cents. Like if your bill is 89.35, you give 90, but that's all and they don't expect more than that.

For example, if someone compared the kgirl scene in SD vs LA / OC vs the Bay, they may be quick to become indignant about tipping when they realize what's available elsewhere (eg, looks, service, variety) and at what price point. The disparity comes to a fever-pitch when they realize theyre expected to tip for something that was included elsewhere.
