As long as we do business with an independent adult, it's no different than GM paying a line-worker who then chooses to drink or snort their paycheck. That worker's addiction is a personal issue which they as an adult are responsible for controlling, or getting help to kick, if they want to continue working. If an individual blames a specific occupation for their alcohol or drug addiction, or can't do the work without those crutches, then obviously they don't belong in that line of work, especially when there's an abundance of individuals who can do the job without using such destructive substances.
If an adult can maintain themselves, do their job and provide quality service, it's not our place to say how they choose to spend their earnings. But once that person is unable to do any of those, we should at least try to help them avoid self-destructing. And if that ultimately means they no longer get our business or our positive reviews, so be it. Let the market teach them that it doesn't pay to be a sloppy addict in this line of work.
Agreed. I know some have issues and habits that are hard to kick, but I struggle with the lack of accountability some people have or choose to inflict on others. Grown people can "save" themselves from themselves if they feel the need to.
