Turn on a side street or two and find your way back to Kensington Avenue. Look at the people who congregate on the street corners and try to avoid the crowds in favor on the single solider manning her post alone. Given you are in the right neighborhood, there is simply no substitute for your own effort in finding the crooks and niches where the SW's hang. I too was most curious on how Covid 19 might impact the world's old profession so I took a ride on a weekday and took a couple of laps each in the early afternoon (noon to 1 PM) and a couple hour's later 3-4 PM. A sample size of a single day isn't all that revealing but I saw next to nothing on either trip. If you think picking a gem from 20 yards away in a moving car is a challenge, add a and-95 mask and you have the new realities of K Avenue. What I did see was a lot of people around Needle Park and Prevention Point which seems to suggest that the illicit drug trade hasn't missed a beat but as far as SW's go, it was very slim pickings.
Logic should tell you that if the open drug markets of K Avenue have survived Covid 19, the SW trade is right behind. One hand washes the other, I seriously wonder how these people can afford to do drugs without the cash infusion of the mongers to the SW's who in turn support the drug trade. I think it would make an interesting thesis paper for some PHD candidate in Economics at nearby Penn. He wouldn't have to travel far to interview the industry players.
