I think one item we are not factoring into the rate calculation is the impact of business travellers. Having travelled for many years beause of my job I took the opportunity of testing local ladies at many cities inside and outside the US. Those travellers have more than just their salary, they have "per-diem" money to cover expenses. Depending on their company rules they could be making a killing.

Example. In a project I worked in Texas I was allowed $80/ day for meals, $130 for lodging, and $40 for car rental. That's $250/ day. In that project I was provided that money and I could do what I wanted. So, I get a $50 hotel, $20 for a car and $50 for meals. That's $120/ day, leaving $130/ day available. Relocation expenses can be difficult however the real problem is maintaining US-like income and lifestyle relative to the local currency for living expenses.
